England: Restrictions to Ease Soon? Scotland Calling… Earth to Nicola…

Comment:

Looks like some temporary relief is on the horizon for our cousins south of the border, if only because – according to Steve Baker MP – Easter is a very busy time for the hospitality sector, pubs and restaurants… Er, churches tend to be pretty busy around Easter as well, coincidentally, would you believe. The Bishops must, without any hesitation, announce the re-opening of churches without consulting either Government officials or the virus. God will take care of both.

So, here we have Steve Baker MP in very optimistic mood, talking as if the English population is possibly going to have their freedoms handed back in the near future.  Really?  I wonder if they will be accepting asylum seekers from Scotland… Nicola, are you listening?

Elsewhere on talkRADIO this morning, we heard Peter Hitchens reminding us that, having handed over our freedom, we won’t be getting it back.  He did say that there would be (as has been the case to date) some easing of restrictions, a certain amount of freedom permitted and then there will be another fear-filled reason why we need to have the restrictions imposed yet again, if not another full-blown lockdown.

So, who do you think is closer to the truth – Peter Hitchens or Steve Baker MP?

The Great Lockdown Debate: Who Won?

Comment:

Mike Graham is to be congratulated on his professional chairing of the above video debate between two well-known journalists. The question for our discussion is who won the debate? That will be for you to decide, based, of course, on whether you are more convinced by Peter Hitchens’ arguments or those of Dan Hodges.  Watch out for one piece of brilliant “classic Peter” in there – but will it be sufficient to win your vote?

IS talkRADIO “The Home Of Free Speech”? Just Ask Peter Hitchens…

Comment:

The censored segment in the Mike Graham/Peter Hitchens interview is very significant.  Peter Hitchens isn’t saying anything that has not been said on this blog many times. So, what do the executives at talkRADIO know that the rest of us have not been told? Guesses welcome…

Having lived in the Soviet Union – and he makes frequent references to the fact – Peter seems to be more aware than just about anyone else in the world of journalism/media that what is going on right now in the UK has led us into living life as populations do under Communist dictatorships.

If only we could find an informed and committed Catholic journalist who would speak up in the same confident way,  with the ability to concisely explain the 1917 Fatima apparitions, including the later prophecy revealed by the Fatima seer, Sr Lucia; in an interview with American Historian Professor William Thomas Walsh in 1946,  Sr Lucia said that every country in the world would be overtaken by Communism, reinforcing the earlier warnings that Communism would spread unless the Pope & Bishops consecrate Russia to Our Lady’s Immaculate Heart.  Russia, the first nation to publicly disown the very existence of God in its governance, has to be given back to God, and until that happens in the manner prescribed at Fatima, the world (and Church) will continue in turmoil.

So, please… is there a Catholic journalist in the house?

Is UK In Permanent Lockdown? Is The New Normal Already Here… To Stay?

From Spiked Online…

Brendan O’Neill
Editor of Spiked

This lockdown feels different to the first one. Everyone can sense it. It feels greyer, more dispiriting. The sunny weather of the April / May lockdown has been replaced by rain and the occasional snowstorm, robbing even our ‘daily’ walk of its tiny promise of pleasure. The social solidarity of the first lockdown has been usurped by a concerted emphasis on the necessity of atomisation. Back in March, April, May, we set up local WhatsApp groups and pulled together to shop and care for isolated neighbours. This time round if you go outside you’ll be greeted by ghoulish public-health posters featuring elderly people in oxygen masks and the reprimanding line: ‘Look her in the eyes and tell her you never twist the rules.’ First time round we were assistants to the elderly; this time round we’re their potential killers.

The first lockdown felt novel; this one – the third – feels onerous. The first encouraged us to remove ourselves from society but to still think and behave as members of society: sign up to be an NHS volunteer, deliver medicines to the old, phone a mate and check he’s okay. This one discourages all forms of social connection. This is best summed up by the instruction from the Department of Health’s propaganda wing: ‘Act like you’ve got it.’ That is, assume you are diseased, assume you will sicken others. Who would knock on an elderly neighbour’s door to see if she needs anything if they believed, or assumed, that they were carriers of a virus that has a high fatality rate among the old? In the first lockdown I received messages every hour from local volunteers asking if someone could do some shopping, drop off some drugs, give somebody a phone call. This time, nothing.

Then there’s the most striking difference – the absence of anticipation. In the first lockdown there was always a buzz, building after a while to a palpable sense of national expectancy, about a return to normality. Remember the cheers and memes when we found out the date pubs would reopen? Lockdown was seen as a temporary measure, and more importantly an unusual measure. Aside from a few comfortably off green types who loved the lack of airplanes and the disappearance of greedy shoppers, and some millennial socialists who fantasised that having the government pay everyone’s wages was akin to revolution, most people viewed lockdown as a thing that would end, not a way of life. The baleful impact of lockdown was partially alleviated by a shared desire for a return to the crowded, shoulder-rubbing, maskless days of old. Never had the word ‘normal’ seemed so thrilling. ‘Back to normal’ was the moral glue of a necessarily atomised people. Now, perhaps most tragically of all, that seems to have disappeared, too.

Of course many people still crave a return to normality. But in the public sphere of commentary and politics, talk of opening up, of planning for the thrusting of society back into normalcy, is actively discouraged and even frowned upon. There can be no going back, some say. Ask the government for a timeframe for the restoration of normality and you’ll be branded a ‘Covid denier’ who wants to rush things to a potentially catastrophic degree. ‘We are not at the beginning of the end of this pandemic’, says Yale sociologist Nicholas Christakis, ‘we’re just at the end of the beginning’.

The ‘dream of going back to normal’ is a ‘huge distraction’, says a writer for the Guardian. The inescapable Devi Sridhar, the public-health academic whose voice of doom is enthusiastically coveted by the media, speaks to us as if we are patients on a therapist’s couch – ‘it is perfectly normal to grieve for our lost normality, but denial needs to be followed by acceptance’, she has counselled. This idea of ‘denial’ – the favoured slur of lockdown elites who want to frustrate discussion about life and liberty after Covid – was taken up by the New Statesman, too. The blather about going ‘back to normal’ is just a way of denying reality, says one of its columnists. Which isn’t surprising – ‘denial… is a natural dysfunction’. ‘It is a hard truth to swallow, but: there won’t be a return to “normal”’, says a writer for the Atlantic.     Click here to read entire article at source…

There’s only one way to object to the “lockdown is here to stay” mentality and that is not to comply. There IS no other way.  If you disagree, share your strategy, because I’m fresh out of ideas…

It seems to me that if everyone opened up businesses – and churches – and we all went about our daily lives as we did before China sent us this less-than-deadly virus, there really isn’t anything the Governments of the UK could do, except bring in the military to round us up and take us to the re-education camps… and thus they would be revealing their true colours, making clear their real agenda.  Then we would know that this is not about a virus at all.  Not at all.  And is this not what we have been saying from the get-go?

At that point, we could surrender our freedom freely (so to speak) – we would know officially that the game was up.  Until then, we need to stop the childish obedience and start living our lives fully again. Yes? No?

Some Light Relief… My Favourite Films…

Entire film available to view on YouTube here

Comment:

From time to time I find myself in conversation with friends sharing the same hair colour as my unworthy (silver-haired) self, when the topic of “the good old days” inevitably features. In our walks down Memory Lane we discuss friends and fashion, employment histories, church and recreational interests. We remember our favourite books, jokes and films, and I can be relied upon to say that one of my all-time favourite actors is Bob Hope. His delivery of the hilarious scripts in just about every film of his that I can remember, is priceless.

The above clip is from My Favourite Brunette. Even in lockdown, it made me laugh a hearty laugh or ten. So, given that we are living in hard times, with serious issues to discuss, debate and, of course, pray about, I think that a little light relief may be in order.

In the past, we’ve enjoyed the occasional “joke” threads, where funny stories and jokes of the “good clean” variety are shared, so this is along the same lines. Avoiding anything which is obviously unsuitable for publishing on a Catholic blog, feel free to post clips from your favourite films (movies if you’re an American 😀 )  or if you prefer to recommend a good book, tell us a comical story or joke, feel free so to do.

We can excuse this levity by simply admitting the need for a little light relief – a break from the stress of lockdown.  It’s not that we are failing to take the pandemic seriously – not at all.   Unlike this bridegroom’s attitude to his marriage …   😀

Scots TV Presenter On Covid-Generation: “What’s The Point?” Future Bleak…

Comment:

It is my considered opinion that there is no point any more in writing to politicians at any level. Things are too far gone now – lockdowns have become an accepted method of controlling the population. Generating fear really does work, and it makes no difference if we remind folk that the Government’s own alleged experts said at the outset that there is a 99.98% recovery rate in those who become infected with this virus.  In other words, most people recover. At least two people in England, who were aged over 100 recovered way back at the beginning – wheeled out of hospital to a parade of staff cheerfully applauding. Doesn’t matter. There is a tiny risk of becoming infected, so best to stay at  home, close schools and businesses, ban church-going, insist on mask-wearing and (anti) social distancing, with heavy handed police tactics, including hefty fines, imposed on anyone who dares to disobey.  Too bad about those suffering with other illnesses;  last time I checked Covid was #24 on the list of causes of death in the UK – or was that England, can’t be sure, but you’ll get my drift…it’s certainly not #1 cause of death in Scotland, or anything like it, that’s for sure.

In that context, I have every sympathy with Neil Oliver’s views, and I’m not at all surprised at the perfectly understandable attitude of his 17 year old daughter and her friends who ask “what’s the point” of studying and working to succeed in education in preparation for the world of work, when, on the whim of a Government our personal and religious freedoms may be removed, with education and work brought to an unceremonious halt.

What I find hard to fathom, though, is why someone with Neil Oliver’s obvious  intelligence (and ditto Mike Graham) hasn’t apparently realised why we are in lockdown for the foreseeable future; that this is not about a virus at all, never was about a virus – that we are actually living under a system of totalitarian governance, stealthily established with the willing, if naïve, co-operation of the majority of the population; that, almost overnight, Communism has arrived.  They don’t appear to be joining up the dots to reach that conclusion. Too busy, I suppose, rightly focused on encouraging the teenagers in their circle not to lose hope, but to keep planning ahead…

In any event, Neil Oliver hits a number of nails on the head in the above interview, and I fully sympathise with his response to this ongoing and apparently never-ending series of lockdowns.  Do you?

Doctors Punished Personally/Financially For Not Obeying “Covid Orthodoxy”…

Comment:

There are reports this morning on the  refusal of the Westminster Government to identify a way out of lockdown.  Click here to read more.

Note this from one MP – the Deputy Chair of the group, Steve Baker: “We locked down the country and shut down our schools on the basis of a forecast, so why can’t we open it up on the basis of one too? It is not sustainable to leave the public and British businesses languishing any longer.”

Is Steve Baker right – or is the Prime Minister right to refuse to commit to ending lockdowns and restrictions, in the spirit of “better safe than sorry”? Is “staying safe” the most important thing?

London Mayor: Non-Compliance Serious – NHS Theatre of War! Stay At Home!

Comment:

According to Lockdown Sceptics, Government is very concerned about the lack of compliance this time around – and I have to say my own experience driving down the motorway last Wednesday was not what I expected.  The M8 was packed, traffic no different from any other week night.  So, it may be that people are, at last, waking up to what is really going on and, hopefully, will find the courage to fight this ongoing tyranny.

I still hear people say “We’re sleep-walking into Communism…”  To which I reply: “NO!  It’s here!  We’ve marched into it… We’re living under Communist governance, right now.”  Before we know it, we’ll be in the later stages where, as the cheerful Communist-inspired motto goes,You’ll own nothing and you’ll be happy about it.  Those of us who who want to keep ownership of our own homes and hearths, must refuse to comply with these disgraceful restrictions on our freedoms, both personal and religious freedom –  we must not, we cannot allow them to be taken away from us.

This police state activity took place in Scotland, just a few days ago…  a neighbour reported this family for having too many people in their home, when the people she saw entering were actually para-medics bringing their seriously ill daughter home from hospital… Snitches are not only nasty people, but they’re dangerous people as well…

We keep asking what we can do about this tyranny being imposed on us and the answer seems to be – nothing.  Protests are squashed; remember the 35,000 plus people who protested in London in recent months (reported on the TV news as “a few hundred”) – we are, literally, under totalitarian dictatorship, we are living in a police state.  Obviously, we must pray hard and we must do everything possible to signal our unwillingness to accept this new way of life – this “new normal”.  No thanks!  We must call out the propaganda for what it is, at every opportunity. That apart, without some form of seriously organised protest which will garner meaningful support from the public and force the Government to stop their fear-mongering over a virus with an almost 100% recovery rate in those who become infected, it seems we have no option but to bow down and accept what’s coming to us:   Full blown Communism.

An offer…

If anyone can come up with a likely-to-work plan, for example, to bring top speakers to Glasgow to lead a protest, Catholic Truth will fund it.  Contact us on editor@catholictruthscotland.com

Open Letter To The Scottish Bishops: Demand End To Govt Abuse of Power…

Martin Blackshaw, aka blogger Athanasius writes…

Dear Bishops of Scotland,

As we reach the tenth month of a relatively harmless Chinese Flu pandemic, the global governmental response to which will surely one day be recorded for posterity as the greatest crime ever perpetrated against humanity, I thought I would take the opportunity at the beginning of this year dedicated to St. Joseph to once again upbraid you for abandoning Christ’s flock to the wolves.

You may recall that I wrote to you in July 2020 demonstrating, with sound statistical evidence, the falsehood of the official narrative regarding this virus, which the UK government had already downgraded to “non-life threatening” on March 19, the same day it mandated the closure of our churches with your approval on the very feast of St. Joseph, Patron of the Universal Church.

Despite the detailed information I provided at that time, together with a reminder that the Church’s superior divine mission can never be made subject to secular interference, you have continued to impose the most unholy measures in the House of God in your zeal to appease the “Prince of  this world”.

For four consecutive months last year you closed the churches completely to your flocks. Over the same period you compounded the scandal by complying with an evil law forbidding Sacramental visits to the dying, thereby abandoning many souls in the most important last hours or moments of their lives.

Since the easing of that failed lockdown you have continued to collaborate with the new government dictatorship in the suppression of people’s inalienable rights to freedom and the worship of God. In this regard you have limited Holy Mass to small groups, obliging the faithful to pre-book as though they were arranging a dental appointment and subjecting them to infantile admittance rules that have absolutely no precedent in Church history and no basis in established science – your unspoken “no mask = no Mass or Sacraments” rule standing out as singularly iniquitous before God.

If only this misplaced zeal were evident in defence of the rights of the Church and our Christian heritage when the secular authorities legislate against the divine and natural law or when Catholic politicians publicly trample the Church’s moral teaching and then present themselves unopposed for Holy Communion, the faithful would scarce have cause to doubt your fidelity to Christ, Our Lord.

This tragically not being the case, however, it is the duty of all subordinate Catholics to call you out for the hypocrites you are; men who strain on a gnat while swallowing a camel, prelates apparently devoid of supernatural faith whose episcopal agendas, like that of Pope Francis, are more aligned with the naturalist doctrines of Socialism than with the divine doctrine of Our Saviour, whose Kingdom is not of this world.

Reading through the three Encyclical letters of the present Pontiff, one is struck immediately by the dearth of references to the immortal soul and the supernatural life. Everything is about this world, i.e., the climate, migrants, the poor, injustice, the marginalised, a brotherhood of man, etc. It’s like reading the worldview of a Communist or a Freemason, not remotely in line with traditional Papal teaching.

Likewise your own mindset as most recently expressed in Bishop Nolan’s ‘Pastoral Letter for Day of Peace’, here

This disgraceful document similarly emphasises the “new humanism” of Vatican II, to quote Pope Paul VI at the conclusion of that fateful Council in 1962, the bitter fruits of which subsequently led him to lament “the smoke of Satan in the Church” – more specifically identified by an exultant Leo Cardinal Suenens as “The French Revolution in the Church”.

It is hardly surprising then that after almost 60 years of this conciliar destruction of the faith from within, we find you exhorting not to a restoration of all things in Christ, Our King, but to the embracing of the diabolic “Build Back Better” programme of a global Socialist elite presently engaged in the establishment of a New World Order of brutal totalitarianism that they variously describe as “The Great Reset” and “The New Normal”.

Well did Our Lady of Fatima warn of the global spread of the errors of Russia so long as the Pope and bishops of the world refuse to grant her request for a public and solemn consecration of that country to her Immaculate Heart. Well did Sister Lucy describe the subsequent unfolding of the Third Secret chastisement in the Church as “apostasy from the top down”.  She also said (in an interview with an American historian in 1946) that Communism would spread to every country without exception;  it is now here, aided and abetted by you bishops…

If ever the Scriptural warning that Lucifer often appears disguised as an angel of light were applicable, it is today in this “Build Back Better” doctrine of Socialism that promises a new humanity emerging from a programme of psychological warfare on the peoples of the nations, suppression of their inalienable rights and freedoms, destruction of their economies and a silencing of all legitimate opposition by means of media censure, arbitrary fines and police brutality.

The Bishops of Scotland

Where is your outrage, you who champion Vatican II’s French revolutionary spirit of liberty, equality and fraternity? Why are you not speaking out forcefully against this diabolic assault on our way of life, against these criminal impositions in the name of a virus that has purportedly killed only 1.8 million of the estimated 70 million who die in this world every year?

Untold numbers around the globe are committing suicide in despair, countless thousands more are suffering mental health issues, incalculable numbers have seen their medical treatment for genuine life-threatening illnesses suspended, tens of millions are losing their employment, economies are collapsing, civil liberties are suspended, families are split and isolated, the elderly die alone and the worship of God is forbidden in the public domain while you, disciples of the “new humanism” of Vatican II, apostles of justice and peace, defenders of the poor and marginalised, remain conspicuously silent, your only utterances being to echo the fallacious “Build Back Better” doctrine of the Socialist despots responsible for such evil.

You of all people should know that the only way to “Build Back Better” in this troubled world is to restore all things in Christ, whose universal Kingship must be re-established everywhere, not least in the hearts of men, particularly men of the Church: For as Pius IX declared in Quas Primas: “…as long as individuals and states refuse to submit to the rule of Our Saviour, there is no really hopeful prospect of a lasting peace among nations. Men must look for the peace of Christ in the Kingdom of Christ…”

Christ The King

Alas, this is not the sound doctrine you preach by your indifferentist “common home” vision of a world in which all religions and none collaborate in the creation of some future mythical paradise on earth, as though this place were not after all a temporary exile and a valley of tears to be traversed in the hope of one day arriving at our true eternal home in heaven.

The faithful need to see an end to this destructive Vatican II experiment and the cowardice it has engendered in the Shepherds of Christ’s flock. Our Lord did not come into this world as a hippie to found a commune of earth worshippers and appeasers, He came to found His Catholic Church by His own precious blood for the salvation of souls, outside of which, declares the infallible dogma, there is no salvation.

Why do you no longer preach this divine truth, this certain reality? Is it because, like the ancient Latin Mass of the saints and martyrs, the kneeling to receive Our Lord on the tongue at Holy Communion, sermons on the four last things – death, judgment, heaven and Hell – and so many other holy traditional Catholic beliefs and practices handed down, it represents an inconvenient barrier to the new humanism of that so-called pastoral Council?

You need to open your spiritual eyes and see the devastation this new orientation of Vatican II has visited upon Our Lord’s holy Church, which you have helped reduce to ruins over many years and which you now subject to the demands of inferior secular authorities, turning the House of God, a House of Faith, into a house of Covid fear and forbiddance.

You are the successors of the Apostles called by Our Lord to preach fearlessly, as they did, against sin and irreligion, the real plague that threatens humanity, not wring your hands over a respiratory virus that hardly compares with past deadly pandemics, and certainly not to the extent that requires your approval of vaccines produced from or tested with the stem cell lines of aborted babies, however remote in time.

Pope John Paul II

Abortion, as you well know, is “a sin crying to heaven for vengeance”, to quote John Paul II. It is therefore unconscionable that the present Church hierarchy should approve of vaccines produced or tested using the stem cell lines of murdered innocents, applying sophistry to undermine divine moral teaching that forbids the reaping of benefits from evil acts.

There is quite sufficient sophistry at work right now in those peddling the Covid-19 crisis that never was, your duty as disciples of the Lord is to expose this with the truth, not participate in it to the further detriment of the worship of God and the common good of humanity.

Having read your response to the Scottish government’s latest January lockdown, your timidity was once again on full public display. Instead of using the divine authority invested in you by God to command and demand an end to this unprecedented and inhumane abuse of government power, your letter is best described as pusillanimous and embarrassing. It has to stop, for you are called to be Shepherds of souls and on that alone you will be most rigorously judged by the divine Judge.

In this regard I am reminded of the words of one brave prelate who, when persecuted by his confreres for defending the faith handed down from the poison of the conciliar new humanism, was asked why he acted as he did. His response is sobering:

“When I stand before my judge and He asks me what I did with my priesthood, I do not want to hear those terrible words “you have helped to destroy the Church along with the rest of them”.

Sobering words indeed, and well worthy of your serious reflection, as are the following concluding statements:

“I do not think there are many among Bishops that will be saved, but many more that perish.” (St. John Chrysostom, Extract from St. John Chrysostom, Homily III on Acts 1:12).

“The floor of hell is paved with the skulls of bishops.” (St. Athanasius, Council of Nicaea, AD 325).

Nicola Sturgeon: Worship Virus, Not God – Bishops Must Refuse To Comply…

Summary, Edinburgh Evening News (note:  no mention of ban on church-attending)

Lockdown may last longer than January

Scotland’s new lockdown may last longer than initially intended, Nicola Sturgeon has told MSPs.

A legal requirement will be in force to ensure Scots living in Level 4 areas remain at home as much as possible during January.

However, the First Minister told the Scottish Parliament that these changes will be kept “under review”.

She said: “However, I cannot at this stage rule out keeping them in place longer, nor making further changes. Nothing about this is easy.”

Comment:

As expected by those of us who are totally cynical about the Scottish Government and its leader who is well overdue an Emmy Award for best Scottish TV Actress, Nicola Sturgeon has announced that we are going into full lockdown from midnight tonight.  While Boris/England is agonising over whether or not to introduce another full-blown lockdown, Nicola Sturgeon – ever anxious to portray herself as the decisive-if-reluctant-bearer-of bad-tidings- leader, has plunged Scotland into another lockdown.

Frankly, I don’t believe the propaganda about the NHS being in peril – but even so, that’s not my problem.  I’ve been paying into the NHS for years and I’m not one bit pleased that my contributions apparently mean nothing, that the NHS is not fit for purpose, it can’t deal with a simple virus.  It’s not my job to protect the NHS.  It’s my job to be suspicious of Government and believe me, suspicious is the understatement of the year, since I can no longer describe myself as a free person living in a free country.

Sturgeon has the temerity to once again ban worship in churches, and the bishops will no doubt yet again, be obedient servants of the State.  Then she has the added temerity to say that the most painful decision was the restrictions on schools and nurseries.  Honestly, you couldn’t make this stuff up.

Catholic Truth calls on the Bishops and, indeed, all those in positions of religious authority from priests to religious superiors to bishops, to refuse to comply this time.  No matter the legal consequences.  We cannot replace the worship of God with the worship of a virus.  Speaking for myself, if our priests decide to defy this unlawful and – I would say – blasphemous action, I will be at Mass on Sunday as I am required by God’s law.

Our blogger, Athanasius, is preparing a second Open Letter to the Bishops of Scotland, which we will publish as a separate thread as soon as he submits it, within the next day or two, but in the meantime, please make clear your own position on this latest blow to our person and religious freedom.  Are you going to sigh and accept it all – again?
