Scots Bishops, Climate Change, Lack of Faith (or even) Christian Perspective…

Do not worry about tomorrow… tomorrow will take care of itself (Matt 6:34)

“In a letter to the Daily Telegraph, faith leaders have called on the government to set a net zero greenhouse gas emissions target in law to halt climate change.

The letter is signed by more than 40 representatives of Christian, Jewish, Muslim, Buddhist and Hindu communities.

A report from the government’s climate advisers, the Committee on Climate Change, says that a net zero target is needed to avoid temperature rises exceeding the 1.5C level which would be disastrous for hundreds of millions of the world’s poorest people.

Politicians urged to ‘show leadership’ on climate change

letter says:

“The UK government must take the opportunity created by yesterday’s report from the Committee on Climate Change to commit to eliminating our country’s contribution to global temperature rises.

“The urgency and scale of action required necessitates a legally-binding target of net zero emissions by 2045.

“Such a target demands a cross-governmental approach and one which does not rely on offsets or outsourcing of carbon emissions to poorer nations – the very countries which are being hit hardest by climate change, despite having contributed least to the problem.
“We readily recognise this means changing our lifestyles and behaviours.

“Indeed, we welcome the benefits that will follow, including cleaner air and warmer homes. Our country’s faith communities have already begun to embrace these changes, with thousands of places of worship powered by renewable energy and families committing to live simply and sustainably.

“We now urge our country’s politicians to show leadership of the magnitude demanded by the challenge we face and encourage them to consider the extraordinary legacy they could leave.”  Ends.      Source

Two Scottish Bishops have signed the above letter – The Most Revd Leo Cushley JCD –   Archbishop of St Andrews and Edinburgh and The Rt Revd Joseph Toal – Bishop of Motherwell; I suppose the miracle is that only two have signed it, so maybe we should be thankful for small mercies.  For England & Wales,  The Rt Revd John Arnold – Bishop of Salford; lead bishop on environmental affairs for the Catholic Church in England and Wales signed.  “Environmental affairs”?  Are they kidding?  Is there a bishop anywhere, who is, however remotely, interesting in “Faith Affairs”?  For pity’s sake.  Gimme patience!

The above link came to me from Patrick,  a reader (in Scotland, I think, but he can correct that in the comments if I’m wrong) and he included the following message – I really can’t think of anything to add so I’ll close with Patrick’s remarks:

[This letter] is a perfect example of the perfidity of our Catholic leaders, and their embrace of the pagan global warming religion in lock step with our Pontiff.

I don’t know if you saw a piece from Pope Francis’ “global warming attack dog” Cardinal Turksen this week where he tells us all we must stop breathing out (carbon dioxide) as this essential plant food will cause the world to end in ten years.

Last week our Pope made a long overdue attack on the culture of death called abortion. In the US alone, 60 million innocent lives have been sacrificed to the godless Gaia since infanticide was legalised.

Then in the next breath he commends the New world order and the IPPC which says we need to reduce the world’s population to under one thousand million (in New money) to “save the planet from global warming”

Can some one advise this old curmudgeon how to hang on to the vestiges of his Catholic faith when surrounded by Satanic leaders?

Sorry for the rant, but my tether is stretched to its limit.  [Ed:  welcome to the club!]

Pope Francis (not climate change) Is Leading The World Towards Disaster…

Pope Francis: Climate Crisis ‘Leading the World Towards Disaster’  From Brietbart…

If only he were writing his resignation letter – Sigh…

Pope Francis painted a frightening picture of a global climate emergency Monday, saying we humans must “correct our path before it is too late.”

“Around the world, we are seeing heat waves, droughts, forest fires, floods and other extreme meteorological events, rising sea levels, the emergence of diseases and further problems that are only a dire premonition of things much worse to come, unless we act and act urgently,” the pope told a group of leaders assembled at the Vatican for a meeting titled “Climate Change and New Evidence from Science, Engineering, and Policy.”

“Time is of the essence,” the pope told the group, which included the president of the General Assembly of the United Nations and the finance ministers of various nations. “You are here today to reflect on how to remedy this profound crisis caused by a confusion of our moral ledger with our financial ledger. You are here to help stop a crisis that is leading the world towards disaster.” …

… The U.N. program endorsed by the pope goes well beyond addressing climate change, however, and encompasses “17 Sustainable Development Goals and 169 targets,” some of which directly contradict the Catholic Church’s core beliefs regarding human life.  [Emphasis added, for what should be very obvious reasons…]

“We are committed to ensuring universal access to sexual and reproductive health-care services, including for family planning, information and education,” the program declares, which includes the putative right to abortion.

The United Nations has been one of the most implacable forces behind a worldwide push for legalized abortion, under its umbrella goals of “reproductive health” and “gender equality.”

In the years leading up to Ireland’s 2018 abortion referendum, for example, the UN repeatedly attacked Ireland for its pro-life laws, employing its international muscle to demand that the predominantly Catholic nation repeal the Eighth Amendment to its constitution that protected the right to life of unborn infants.

One ruling from U.N. human rights “experts,” for instance, said that Ireland’s abortion ban “subjects women to discriminatory, cruel and degrading treatment.”

In 2017, the U.N. Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) committee attempted to pressure Ireland into changing its abortion laws, declaring that the Eighth Amendment violated women’s rights because it “unduly restricts access to abortion.”

The U.N. committee insisted that Irish law be changed to allow “the introduction of amendments to current legislation governing access to abortion.”   Click here to read the above Brietbart report in full.

Comment:

We already know that this Pope is more interested in politics than Catholicism, that he accepts, without criticism, the latest scientific fad, while ignoring the Message of Fatima despite paying lip-service to some of it;  that he fears the destruction of the planet through man-made climate change more than the retribution from God which he is making more likely by the nano-second through his failure to act in accordance with his papal office.  He is duty bound to protect the Faith, to ensure that no changes are made to it and that the natural moral order established by God is obeyed. He’s doing none of that.  Quite the reverse – he has actively encouraged breaking with Catholic Faith Tradition and living in sexual couplings outside of marriage.  He’s easily the worst ever pontiff in the entire history of the Church – that is a fact, not up for discussion.

Obviously, we need to pray for him – his very salvation is at risk; no question about it.  On the other hand,  are we – as we have been accused, often –  just a bunch of extremists, concerned needlessly?  After all, very few bishops are saying a word, and none of them are Scots, English, Welsh or Irish.  Why is that?  Could it be that the modernists are right, that we should be turning our attention to issues such as the environment, having “lost” the battle for traditional marriage, the sanctity of life and other fuddy duddy matters best forgotten?   Maybe, since the vast majority of Catholics are going along with what is going on in the Church right now, and since he’s a very popular pope – as would be any shopkeeper who turned a blind eye to the children nicking the sweets – maybe we just need to get with the programme and accept that things change, time to move on… After all, if the Pope himself can endorse the UN programme which endorses the right to contraception and abortion… Well – who are we to contradict him?

Hurricanes Divine Judgment on President Trump’s Disbelief in Global Warming?

 Comment:

There’s certainly a school of  belief that God does sometimes express his wrath through natural disasters, and there are biblical verses to quote: “The LORD Almighty will come with thunder and earthquake and great noise, with whirlwind and tempest and flames of a devouring fire.”  (Isaiah 29:6)

But as a punishment for not believing a scientific theory? C’mon!

As we reflect on the significance – if any – of these terrible hurricanes, let us remember two things; firstly, of course, to pray for the poor people suffering, at this time, and secondly, one thing that has not made (and is unlikely to make) the anti-Trump broadcasting news here in the UK  – that President Trump donated one million dollars of his personal money to the people of Texas and Louisiana.

Over to you – are these hurricanes a punishment for not “believing in” global warming?

Pope Francis

Since we’ve not yet discussed the promised papal encyclical on the environment, I thought this might be an interesting introductory discussion –  this is the first time I’ve re-blogged a post. Looks interesting.  Share your thoughts…

EX MAGNA SILENTIUM or EX MAGNO SILENTIO

Pope Francis addressed a business expo group on Saturday by video.  He held papers in his hands from which it appears he was reading as he spoke.  That indicates that this talk was not a spontaneous outburst, but rather a reasoned prepared presentation.  I must say that I read what he had spoken, and then reread it and then came back to it again.  I really want to understand what he tries to teach, but I find it so difficult from the perspective of a Catholic.  The link I have provided is from The Wanderer and I give them much credit for taking what I read and turning it into something much more clear.  So, I suppose I was just too dense yesterday and I appreciate their recitation of his points: that people need to take the needs of people into account as a priority and not as emergency measure where…

Global Warming Scientists in Antartica: the stuff of comedy – and cover-up…

ImageWhen the Russian ship, Akademik Shokalskiy, became stranded in the Antarctic ice on Christmas Eve, the media couldn’t wait to cover stories about the ship and its inhabitants. What these reports failed to mention, however, was what the Russian ship was doing in Antarctica to begin with. The Akademik Shokalskiy carried climate change scientists who were looking to do global warming-related research.

According to NewsBusters:

The Russian ship, Akademic Shokalskiy, was stranded in the ice while on a climate change research expedition, yet nearly 98 percent of network news reports about the stranded researchers failed to mention their mission at all. Forty out of 41 stories (97.5 percent) on the network morning and evening news shows since Dec. 25 failed to mention climate change had anything to do with the expedition.

In fact, rather than point out the mission was to find evidence of climate change, the networks often referred to the stranded people as “passengers,” “trackers” and even “tourists,” without a word about climate change or global warming.

The blatant omission is egregious, but when you consider the fact that this particular incident is a black eye for the global warming movement, it’s really not all that surprising.

“It’s just unbelievable – the cover up,” Stu sad exasperatedly. “It’s amazing, the evidence coming out now. I mean they have had a rough go of it. If you are a global warming supporter, you have had a rough go over the past 7 or 8 years… As far as facts go, the earth did for a period of time between the 70s and the 80s. It hasn’t since… [But] they just keep doubling down and doubling down… I mean you have been doing this for 10 years and now it’s not working.”

As Glenn was quick to point out, however, is when the people who are in power and control the media are complicit, you can get away with just about anything.

“Well, it was working for… Kim Jong Un,” Glenn concluded. “You just keep denying by saying ‘The people are happy.’ ‘The people are fat and sassy.’ It works for him.”  Source (short video clip at source worth watching)

Catholic Truth Comment:

The above hilarious situation (where three rescue attempts had been thwarted by growing levels of sea ice and weather conditions) raises, afresh, the question of why Catholics are to be found among those gullible folk who believe in man-made climate change. Surely, we should know better?
