Cancel Culture Comes To Scotland – Teacher Fighting Trial By Wokeness …

From the Mail Online…

With editorial commentary throughout…

A Scottish private school teacher is facing being struck off after slamming Ruth Davidson for having a ‘fatherless child’.
Ed: well, he didn’t “slam” her”.  Ruth’s pregnancy was in the news at the time and he merely used it to comment on relevant issues regarding family life in our changing (and not always for the better) society.

Richard Lucas, a physics teacher at £35,000-per-year Merchiston Castle School in Edinburgh, made the comments on a video he posted to his YouTube channel.
Ed: and as far as we know, that’s still allowed in our “free” country. Yes? No?

Mr Lucas is now being investigated by the General Teaching Council for Scotland for his April 2018 video titled ‘Ruth Davidson and the fatherless children’.  Ed:  oops!  Seems I was a bit previous there…

Private teacher rants about Ruth Davidson having ‘fatherless child’ Ed:  he didn’t “rant” at all.  He spoke very calmly. Indeed, I once attended a meeting at which Richard was present. He didn’t so much as raise his voice during some very lively discussions.  So, that’s a porky pie, for starters.  But, decide for yourself – click here to view the video which may cost Richard his registration with the Scottish Teaching Council for Scotland – and thus, end his career, remove his livelihood.

He also says: ‘There is cause to be concerned about same sex marriage.’ Mr Lucas made reference to statistics published by American sociologist Mark Regenerus, he said: ‘The statistics always show worse outcomes for children from lesbian and gay parented households.

‘But then the statistical jiggery pokery kicks in and by controlling for one thing or another eventually you can make those effects disappear and claim that the children turn out just as well.

‘There’s good reason to think that there are problems associated with/correlated with same sex parenthood.’
Ed: Mr Lucas is hardly the first person in the world to suggest this – check this report

Mr Lucas now faces being removed from the teaching register altogether following a complaint by a parent.
Ed: which is a total disgrace. And this parent will, no doubt, pay lip-service to the importance of teaching her offspring to be tolerant of everyone, all opinions and none. Hypocrite.

The GTCS charges read: ‘The meaning and effect of these statements in the 2018 video, is that homosexuality is undesirable as it causes physical and mental health problems. ‘That same sex parenting is inferior to, and is of less value, than heterosexual parenting and should be discouraged as it is harmful to children. The charges continue: ‘Such statements are offensive and/or communicate intolerance, prejudice, discriminatory and/or, are potentially discriminatory. ‘…as a reasonable and properly informed member of the public, having regard to the content of your statements, would conclude that you were intolerant of and prejudiced against same sex parents and would discriminate against them and their children in the course of your duties as a teacher.’
Ed: I beg to differ  On the contrary, any and all thinking persons will conclude that it is the GTCS and the parent responsible for putting Richard Lucas on trial for his beliefs who are intolerant, offensive, prejudiced, and discriminatory. Any “reasonable and properly informed member of the public” will reach that conclusion in jig-time.  Those, that is, who are not yet fully brainwashed – not to say terrified – by the Woke Witch-hunters. Those who can see through the persecution of Richard Lucas. Those, in other words, who can think for themselves. Outside the Woke Box. They know exactly what is going on here. And it’s got absolutely nothing to do with tolerance.

Speaking today to the panel, Mr Lucas said: ‘I admit to making the comments – I do not think that I am unfit to teach.’
Ed: Bravo, Mr Lucas.  That’s the only way to deal with bullies – stand your [righteous] ground.

Mr Lucas also took to his Facebook page on Saturday to defend his actions. He said: ‘I still hold the views expressed in the ‘offending’ video and I will continue to articulate these views regularly and publicly as I see fit.
Ed: Bravo, Mr Lucas!

‘Whatever the outcome, I will immediately restate my views publicly and explicitly reject the right of GTCS to restrict my freedom of speech in this way.’
Ed: Bravo, BRAVO! Mr Lucas.

Mr Lucas, who is representing himself at the hearing, today cross examined former Headmaster of Merchiston Castle Andrew Hunter.
Ed: Oh, that is one wall on which I would love to have been a fly.

Mr Hunter told the panel how he had tried to talk to Mr Lucas about his views, saying: ‘I tried my hardest to nurture you to see that your views had always put you on a collision course. ‘It is in my personal view that in such a vocation we cannot adopt such a view that was expressed in the video. ‘I don’t think it’s our right to irrespective of what any religious texts may say. Whether it’s the bible or the quran.’
Ed: WOW! He’s a treasure, eh?   His patron saint is Pontius Pilate. Hand him a bowl of water and a clean towel (or maybe sanitizer would be more woke). As an aside allow me to opine that maybe he should be on trial himself:  for a Headmaster, his command of the English language isn’t the best – and isn’t “Headmaster” a tad sexist?  Just sayin’ …

Mr Lucas then quoted the Catechism of the Catholic Church to which legal advisor Gareth Jones interrupted, saying: ‘The purpose of the witness is not to descend into personal attacks during cross examination.’
Ed: note:  Richard is not a Catholic but a committed Evangelical Protestant – that he quotes from the Catechism, is evidence, right there, that he’s no bigot.

Mr Lucas closed his questioning by asking: ‘Is your honest belief that because I believe in mainstream Christian beliefs it makes me unfit to teach?’
Ed: that’s it in a nutshell. Answer: yes.  Now, read on for the Head’s waffle…

The former headmaster replied: ‘I tried to say to you, do not you think you have to moderate these views to context and meet people halfway. I tried to get you to acknowledge that if we have faith we can not say such things when there are people around us who have some faith or no faith at all.
Ed: this is the bit where Pontius Pilate slaps on that sanitizer…

‘I wanted the best for you and the students.’
Ed: false:  what you wanted was what was best for you – an easy life; what you wanted was to get a pesky parent off your back. There’s not a teacher in the land who can’t “picture the scene”.

Deputy head Alan Johnston was also cross examined by the former school teacher. In his statement, Mr Johnston said: ‘He was getting close to crossing the line, a line he hadn’t previously crossed. ‘Richard is clever, he never explicitly says the words I think. He thought the school thought he had extreme or radical views.’
Ed: anyone who thinks the Ten Commandments make sense, is thought to hold “extreme or radical views.”  Thanks for the tip. We know which private school we won’t recommend to our wealthy friends when we make some said wealthy friends.

Mr Lucas was adamant during the hearing that the school was monitoring his political party the Scotland Family Party.
Ed: and that is without a doubt.  Check out the Scottish Family Party short introductory video here… With widespread publicity, the new Scottish Family Party is a real threat to the inhabitants of Holyrood – they could entirely change the shape of the next Scottish Parliament.

When he questioned Mr Johnston about this, the deputy head said: ‘I think initially we thought that people have the right to an opinion – we were not monitoring your online behaviour.
Ed: well, initially you were right. You should have stuck with that thought and told the pesky parent what to do with her woke complaint.

Mr Lucas questioned Mr Johnston further, asking: ‘My video supposedly infringed aspects of Merchiston Castle – did it?’

Mr Johnston replied: ‘Voicing an opinion which makes anyone feel less accepted is intolerable. Our values are to be accepting.’
Ed: well, the best way to teach is by example, so you need to show Mr Lucas that HE is accepted; that HIS values are accepted.  Simple, really.

The hearing continues.    Source

Well, it’s officially here.  Cancel Culture. We must not deviate from the politically correct path or we face “re-education” at best and sacking at worst. To find out where this “cancel culture” is heading, just look across The Pond… Anyone who doesn’t agree with Joe Biden and his fellow Communists can’t even purchase a pillow, for goodness sake.  We have to nip this in the bud – if it’s not too late. What thinkest thou?   But first, spare a prayer for Richard Lucas, who is undergoing a most disgraceful persecution. Our Lady, Queen of Peace, pray for him…

Police State UK: Nurse Arrested For Rescue of Mother From Care Home…

Comment:

A woman has been arrested after taking her mother from a care home before England entered a second lockdown. Ylenia Ashton was filmed by her daughter Leandra after she had been handcuffed and placed in a police car following the incident. Speaking to Julia Hartley-Brewer, Leandra Ashton told talkRADIO they made the decision ahead of the new lockdown because they had been unable to see her grandmother for nine months: “The fact there are rules in place that are separating families… I find disgusting.”  [Taken from TalkRadio YouTube platform.]

Leandra had explored all the proper channels to have her grandmother restored to the care of her family, but did not succeed.  If, as we keep being told, the NHS and care workers are overwhelmed, wouldn’t you imagine that they would be delighted to find a loving family willing to take one of their patients home?  Is this yet another example of the Covid Fascism which we see everywhere, with self-appointed police people bullying the rest of us.  Except, this time the real police are the ones doing the bullying.  But did they do this on a whim?  Or are they told to crack down and use heavy-handed tactics on anyone – anyone, no matter age or state of health (ironically) – in order to further the Covid/Lockdown agenda?   Has Leandra touched on something very sinister when she identifies  that there are “rules in place for separating families”?

Some Light Relief: the Beauty of Childish Innocence in an Anti-Child Society…

Comment:

The mother of the two year old in the above video, late for work, rushed off, forgetting to give her son a kiss.  He is furious and although he is not yet in command of an extensive vocabulary, he certainly makes himself understood.

The father (heard in the video) posted the clip on Facebook and it made some of the news broadcasts in the USA.  One commentator assured viewers that when his mother returned home from work “he got all the love!”

Given all the preparation for, and analysis of, our General Election, it’s time for a little light relief, so enjoy the above clip, and feel free to share your own favourite stories, funny videos etc. about children.

Voting in the 2019 General Election

As we prepare to go to the polls in the General Election on 12 December, it is worth reflecting on Church teaching and the principles which should guide us in deciding how to use our vote without violating God’s law.

Click here to read a guide prepared for American Catholics, which seems to be fairly comprehensive.  I’ve not studied everything on that [EWTN] site, but I have checked out some key topics and I think we will all find it useful, and a source for fruitful discussion.

Below, a video clip from the trial of St Thomas More,  saint and martyr, patron of lawyers and politicians, who has been an inspiration to many, including many who are not Catholics, because of his strong, conscientious insistence that God’s law must always be above any law created by man.

Comment:

If the voting guide given in the introduction above still leave you with unanswered questions or doubts,  feel free to ask for clarification on this thread.

Here, at Catholic Truth, we are apolitical and we discuss politics only in the context of our Catholic duty to be decent members of society, contributing, where possible, to the common good.  Please, therefore engage in discussion in a spirit of respect, bearing in mind that the Church exhorts us to adhere to certain principles but does not dictate that we should support (or not) any particular political party. Our overall aim must be to take care not to offend God in the way we vote; not to support the transgression of His Moral Law.  To this end we pray…

St Thomas More, intercede for us, and for all the politicians participating in the forthcoming election; guide and inspire us in the weeks ahead… Our Lady, Help of Christians, pray for us.

Traditional Conference: “Porn Priest” & Bishop Fellay To Share Platform…

“Angelus Press is the publishing house of the Society of Saint Pius X. It has defended the Catholic Faith for over 40 years and now reaches the four corners of the globe with its numerous publications and products. Through these last 40 years Angelus Press has maintained an uncompromising adherence to Tradition and unflinchingly continues the work started by Archbishop Marcel Lefebvre…” Source

Given the close association between the SSPX and Angelus Press, therefore, it is not difficult, to imagine the horror of one of our readers who emailed earlier today with the shocking news that a priest of the Diocese of Lincoln, USA, regarded as something of an expert in pornography and who promotes an entirely new approach to how to deal with impure thoughts, has been invited to address the Angelus Press Conference, 4-6 October:  “Defense of the Family: Fortifying Catholic Marriage.” With Guest Speaker: Bishop Bernard Fellay – Source

Below, the biographical note about Fr Sean Kilcawley, taken from the diocesan website:

About Fr Sean Kilcawley, Director of the Office of Family Life

Fr. Sean Kilcawley is a nationally recognized speaker on Theology of the Body, Human Love and pornography addiction. He was ordained a priest in 2005 for the Diocese of Lincoln. He served as assistant pastor at St. Joseph and North American Martyrs and taught Theology of the body at Pius X High School from 2005-2009. In 2013 Fr. Kilcawley completed a License in Sacred Theology at the John Paul II institute for marriage and family studies in Rome and returned to the Diocese of Lincoln as director of Religious Education. Fr. Kilcawley currently serves as the Director of the Office of Family Life and theological advisor for Integrity Restored.com--a non-profit organization that seeks to restore the integrity of families affected by pornography by providing education and resources to individuals, spouses, parents and clergy; to both heal and prevent wounds inflicted by the sexualized culture.

My correspondent provided me with plenty of written evidence to demonstrate that this priest is most definitely not a suitable speaker for ANY Catholic event, let alone a supposedly traditional – SSPX – event.  However, I’ve already written too much, so I’ll now let  Fr Kilcawley speak for himself in the short video clip below.  His advice on dealing with impurity contradicts, outright, the advice of saints down the centuries, so would YOU want your teenage children listening to this man?  Are you happy to think that priests and parents, not to mention a traditional Catholic Bishop,  will be listening to this man at a Conference ostensibly designed to defend  the family and to strengthen Catholic marriage?  No?  Well,  what should happen now, then?   Should the invitation be withdrawn?  We had to do this ourselves a few years ago, when we invited an American author to address one of our Conferences but, on uncovering some doubt about some of her claims, we felt we had no choice but to disinvite her.  So…  should Angelus Press withdraw its invitation to Fr Kilcawley?

The devil is always discovering something novel against the truth.

Should Catholics Obsess About Food?

Comment:

Although the above short video talk refers to the USA, things are almost identical here in the UK, with just about everyone following some kind of dietary advice from the “experts”.    Is this a kind of obsession which we, as Catholics, should avoid?  After all, Our Lord Himself taught us not to worry about such things:  “… do not worry about about what you shall eat, nor for your body, what you shall put on… Behold, the birds of the air, for they neither sow, nor do they reap, nor gather into barns; and your heavenly Father feeds them.  Are not you of much more value than they?” (Matthew 6:25-26)

So, at the risk of incurring the wrath of the animal rights fanatics who won’t agree that humans are of much more value than the birds of the air,  I am wondering if we should take the advice at the end of the video and take responsibility for our own diet – and not obsess over what the Governments thinks is best for us.  What do you think?

I must confess, I already do that, by and large.  At one time I was the proud purchaser of only diet drinks and semi-skimmed milk; I even hid the chip pan (although never the chocolate)… No more.  I became a liberated woman eater a number of years ago and haven’t looked back since (nor put on any notable weight, if at all – I also ditched the bathroom scales 😀 )

Share your thoughts – while I take a break to enjoy some coffee and cream cake…

Victory for Parents: Named Person Scheme Axed by Scottish Government!

Education Secretary John Swinney will today announce he is to repeal the controversial ‘Named Person’ laws which were rejected by the Supreme Court two years ago.

The Herald understands he will scrap parts 4 and 5 of the Children and Young People Act of 2014, which provided for a ‘named person’ to ensure the wellbeing of every young person in Scotland.  Click here to read more and here to read the report from the Christian Institute.

Single Mothers – Backbone of Society?

Comment:

Afua Hirsch is a regular commentator on Sky News’ debating segment The Pledge and has recently appeared on other discussion programmes, such as BBC’s Question Time.  Liberal?  Well, any more “liberal” and the rest of us, with more traditional views (e.g. about marriage and family life), would be in handcuffs before you could say “you’re under arrest…”

Check out the short video clip above, from the most recent edition of The Pledge, and ask yourself if it is a tad worrying that the entire group seem to accept, unquestioningly, that single motherhood is a good thing (not simply an unfortunate aberration to be charitably tolerated).  Is that a tad worrying?   Or, maybe, like one of the commentators under the video on YouTube, you think that single mothers are the “backbone” of our society?  In which case, you may agree with those in the group who argue for IVF for single women who want a child, like some of us want a new car.   Let’s hear it!

Women’s Football & Femininity…

Is there anyone out there who actually thinks that women playing football is even remotely “feminine”?  Take a look at this…

Now, try to keep a straight face as you make the case for women’s football – which is being praised and promoted across our TV screens like it’s the best thing since – you guessed it – sliced bread…

Women, in fact, seem to be praised and promoted for doing anything and everything that men do, with no sympathetic mention of the traditional role of women as wives, mothers, homemakers.  Indeed, being a wife and mother is now dismissed as “unfulfilling” – hardly surprising, then, that it is the one ambition to which most young girls do not aspire these days. The feminist movement has succeeded in making women ever more masculine – women’s football being the latest evidence of this disturbing phenomenon; and I believe women’s cricket is now also increasingly popular with sporty feminists.

Yet, it seems to women like my unworthy self, that the “feminist” types today are very far from being feminine women, either in appearance (highly immodest dress is very common these days) speech (they can be as crude as any male) or demeanour – see the above clip from the world of women’s football for a classic example.

Think of the planning, the preparation required in order to achieve success in games and move up to national and international level.  Doesn’t leave much time for marriage and the family, does it?  And if it doesn’t sit comfortably with marriage and family life, does that exclude Catholic women from pursuing the sport, at least professionally?   Or have Catholic women now dropped the adjective to become merely “women”?  Could be.  It was George Bernard Shaw (Irish playwright)  who said: “…it is difficult if not impossible for men [and women!] to think differently from the fashion of the age in which they live.”   Seems self-evidently true in our times.

In any event,  personally, I cannot look at any female footballer, whether rolling in the mud crying with disappointment, or strenuously kicking a ball almost level with her head,  and think “feminine”.  Can you?

31/5: The Queenship of Our Lady

Note:  only two of the verses published below, are sung in the video, but included here for the record (so to speak!)

Bring flowers of the rarest
bring blossoms the fairest,
from garden and woodland and hillside and dale;
our full hearts are swelling,
our glad voices telling
the praise of the loveliest flower of the vale!

O Mary we crown thee with blossoms today!
Queen of the Angels and Queen of the May.
O Mary we crown thee with blossoms today,
Queen of the Angels and Queen of the May.

Their lady they name thee,

Their mistress proclaim thee,
Ah, grant that thy children on earth be as true
as long as the bowers
are radiant with flowers,
as long as the azure shall keep its bright hue

O Mary we crown thee with blossoms today!
Queen of the Angels and Queen of the May.
O Mary we crown thee with blossoms today,
Queen of the Angels and Queen of the May.

Sing gaily in chorus;
the bright angels o’er us
re-echo the strains we begin upon earth;
their harps are repeating
the notes of our greeting,
for Mary herself is the cause of our mirth

O Mary we crown thee with blossoms today!
Queen of the Angels and Queen of the May.
O Mary we crown thee with blossoms today,
Queen of the Angels and Queen of the May

Comment:

Earlier in the Month of Mary, a few of the families who attend the traditional Mass at the SSPX chapel in Glasgow, organised a little gathering for the purpose of crowning Our Lady’s statue.  Since these families double as Catholic Truth readers, I was invited along.  It turned out to be a truly beautiful experience.

The host family has a statue of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal in their garden, which is large enough to allow the children to play/kick a ball around etc.  The afternoon began with a buffet lunch and, following some play time (and chat time for the adults), everyone gathered round the statue for the crowning.  Girls, assorted ages and from the different families, were primed to place the lovely crown of flowers on the statue’s head as we began singing each chorus.  They did so perfectly.   An adult would remove the crown at the end of the chorus, and then it would be placed again on the statue by the next girl in line – and this until all three choruses had been sung, and every girl had had the privilege of placing the crown on Our Lady’s head.  It was absolutely beautiful.

Later, when everyone had abandoned the garden and gathered in the living room, where a statue of Our Lady of Fatima takes pride of place, the children asked if they could again crown the statue.  That’s understandable; as the novus ordo Mass-goers keep telling us, everyone, especially the young, “like to be actively involved…”  😀  Of course, anyone who can’t see the difference between this sort of “active involvement” and the (literal) mass takeover in parishes in the past fifty years, needs help.

Anyway, afraid of over-kill, of perhaps putting them off hymn singing forever, if not the Faith itself, I suggested that we just do the crowning, not necessarily sing the three verses/choruses of the hymn again. The youngsters would have none of it!  They insisted on singing the hymn again, every verse and every chorus.  And sing along they did, so seriously, so touchingly.

There is no question about it, the sparks of devotion, love of Our Lord and Our Lady, are ignited when we sing the “old hymns” – you know, the ones which raise our hearts, minds and souls to the things of God and help to embed and deepen our love for Christ and His Mother.

So, enjoy the above lovely rendering of Bring Flowers of the Rarest – and maybe next year YOU might organise a crowning party for your family and friends.

For now, as this Month of Mary draws to a close, I wish a very happy Feast of the Queenship of the Blessed Virgin Mary to one and all!
