China Imposes Totalitarian Rule on Hong Kong: Goal To World Governance Closer?

Hong Kong police have arrested more than 180 protesters on the first day of life under the controversial national security laws imposed by Beijing, as China confirmed that some suspects could be extradited to the mainland under the new rules.

The city’s police force said the arrests were for offences including some under the new laws. On the 23rd anniversary of the handover from Britain to China, crowds defied a ban on protests and gathered on the streets of the busy shopping district Causeway Bay, where there were large numbers of riot police.

“Liberate Hong Kong!”, “Oppose the black police,” many shouted, in a reference to corruption. Some held up black placards emblazoned with the message: “Oppose the bad national security law.”

A Twitter user reported that veteran pro-democracy lawmaker Lee Cheuk Yan was dragged down from a podium by police, who also pepper-sprayed dozens of journalists at the scene.

On Wednesday afternoon Hong Kong police made their first arrest since the law came into force. Police said on Twitter that a man was arrested for holding a Hong Kong independence flag in a protest, which it said violated the new law.  Read more here

Comment:

Mention China’s goal of dominating the world through authoritarian force, and wait to be accused of being a conspiracy theorist.  Well, China wasted no time in imposing its totalitarian rule on Hong Kong – and remember, this is not a country that “merely”  imprisons dissenters;  they are first tortured – and are lucky if they escape with their lives.

In the UK parliament today, Dominic Raab, Foreign Secretary, was upbraided by the opposition for the British Government’s policy of putting trade with China above vital issues of national security and human rights. Pigeons are coming home to roost now – as they will, not only in the UK but across the world, if politicians and people alike don’t wake up and smell the danger of listening to a word that comes from the evil Chinese Communist Government and its partner in crime, the World Health Organisation.  Note the desperation of the WHO to stop the easing of Covid-19 restrictions, warning of a second wave. Do you hear that noise?  It’s an alarm bell which should be ringing in your head and the heads of anyone with ears to hear, to cite the Gospel (e.g. Matt 11:15).

And what might Pope Francis be thinking now about his scandalous relationship with China, complicit in their evil anti-religion policies.  No question mark there, because it seems clear enough that he supports that regime.  He may issue a superficial expression of “concern” about the “disturbances” on the streets of Hong Kong but not, I suspect, much more.  Whatever, his support for the Chinese Communist regime is a source of monumental scandal.  That is a fact.

What we are witnessing in Hong Kong is chilling.  Not just for the people of Hong Kong, God help them, but for the rest of the world, including the UK.   Or is that thought to be classified as a “conspiracy theory”?

Marxism Failed – that’s the good news…

Comment:

Why, given that it always creates totalitarian states, does Marxism continue to draw the young – because it does attract the young.

That, to continue from the headline, is the bad news…

I know of students who are committed to studying Marx and who identify themselves as Socialists.  What’s the draw?

Our Lady appeared at Fatima precisely to warn against the spread of Communism, yet we have bishops (and now a Pope) who are implicitly, if not explicitly singing from the same Marxist hymn sheet – er… to coin a phrase.   Why?

What can we say  – in a few short words, a soundbite, almost –  to draw them closer to a realization that it is Christ – not Marx – who is the answer to all the problems and mysteries of life…

Pope Francis Entrusts China -“That Great Country” – to Our Lady…

VATICAN CITY — Pope Francis Sunday entrusted China to the Blessed Virgin Mary, and asked people to pray for a new outpouring of the Holy Spirit upon the most populated country in the world.

“Dear Catholic brothers and sisters in China, I wish to assure you that the universal Church, of which you are an integral part, shares your hopes and supports you in trials,” Pope Francis said May 24 after the Regina Caeli prayer.

“It accompanies you with prayer for a new outpouring of the Holy Spirit, so that the light and beauty of the Gospel, the power of God for the salvation of whoever believes, can shine in you,” the pope said.

Pope Francis imparted a special Apostolic Blessing upon China for the feast of Our Lady Help of Christians. The Marian shrine of Sheshan in Shanghai, which is dedicated to Our Lady Help of Christians, remains closed on this feast after the Diocese of Shanghai suspended all pilgrimages for the month of May to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

“We entrust the pastors and faithful of the Catholic Church in that great country to the guidance and protection of our Heavenly Mother, so that they may be strong in faith and firm in fraternal union, joyful witnesses and promoters of charity and fraternal hope, and good citizens,” Pope Francis said.

“May Our Lady always guard you!” he added.

In his Regina Caeli address, the pope reflected on the words of Jesus recorded in Gospel of Matthew for the feast of the Ascension of the Lord: “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you.”

China is home to more than 10 million Catholics, with six million registered as members of the Chinese Catholic Patriotic Association, according to official statistics.

The Holy See and the Chinese government signed a provisional agreement in 2018 on the appointment of bishops in the state-sponsored Church, the terms of which have still not been publicly released. In the wake of the deal, previously excommunicated bishops of the Chinese Catholic Patriotic Association, which is overseen by the Communist Party, were received into full communion with the Vatican.

A report published in 2020 by the U.S. China Commission found that Chinese Catholics suffered “increasing persecution” after the Vatican-China deal. It said the government was “demolishing churches, removing crosses, and continuing to detain underground clergy.” Priests and bishops have reportedly been detained or have gone into hiding.

Earlier this week, the Vatican revealed that Catholics in China were able to use the most popular Chinese state-monitored social media platform, WeChat, to livestream Pope Francis’ daily Mass during the coronavirus pandemic.

It is unclear whether Catholics in China were also able to watch the livestream of this Sunday Marian prayer for their country on WeChat due to the heavy censorship of all Chinese online media.

Pope Benedict XVI established the custom of praying for China on the Marian feast of Our Lady Help of Christians in 2007, and composed a prayer to Our Lady of Sheshan for the occasion.

Pope Francis entrusted to the intercession of Mary Help of Christians all Christian disciples and people of good will who are working for peace, dialogue between nations, service to the poor, and the custody of creation.

The pope also marked the fifth anniversary of publication of his environmental encyclical, Laudato si’. He said that he wrote Laudato si’ to “draw attention to the cry of the Earth and the poor.”

Pope Francis spoke during his Regina Caeli address via livestream video recorded in the library of the Vatican’s Apostolic Palace. However, for the first time in more than 10 weeks, people were allowed to be present in St. Peter’s Square when the pope appeared in the window to give a blessing.
Each person who entered the square was required to wear a face mask and security enforced social distancing for the people gathered outside of St. Peter’s Basilica, which reopened to the public on May 18.

After more than 5 million people around the world have been documented with COVID-19, the pope asked Our Lady Help of Christians to intercede “for the victory of humanity over every disease of the body, heart, and soul.”

“The feast of Ascension tells us that Jesus, although he ascended into Heaven to dwell gloriously on the right hand of the Father, is still and always among us for us to derive strength, perseverance, and our joy,” Pope Francis said.  Click here to read report at source...  [emphasis added].

One commentator-  publishing at the above source – writes:

Pope Francis just sold out the entire Catholic Church in China to the atheist communist government and betrayed all those Chinese Catholics who were Tortured, Imprisoned and Martyred and are now still suffering even more. No other Pope since Jesus died on the Cross ever sold out the Catholic Church like PF did!  Something must be wrong with him for what he has done to the Catholic Church since becoming Pope…

Tell Nicola Sturgeon that we want our freedom back NOW! Sign Petition…

Comment:

Today, 21 May, the First Minister of Scotland, Nicola Sturgeon told us all, very solemnly, that she had decided to give us back our civil liberties, bit by bit, as she sees fit, when she thinks it’s all in our best interests.  No thanks.  We are adults.  We’ll decide for ourselves if and when we want to stay in our homes, visit our families and friends and we’ll also decide what we want to buy – not just what she deems “essentials” (food and medicines).

We’ve had enough.  Martin Blackshaw,  one of our bloggers (Athanasius),  has organised a petition demanding an early restoration of our personal rights and freedoms, entitled Lift the lockdown, which opens with the following observations:

It has become very evident recently that the First Minister of Scotland, Nicola Sturgeon, has chosen to politicise the Covid-19 virus by refusing to co-operate with the UK government in its efforts to begin lifting restrictions on “lockdown” for at least many more weeks, possibly months. There is also a strange rhetoric emanating from Holyrood about a “new normal” in our lives, rhetoric that should worry all who value freedom and human rights, not to mention the economy.  At the time of writing, deaths in Scotland from suspected Covid-19 stand at around 2,200 from a population of around 5.5 million, a figure that can hardly be construed as the plague upon us requiring the severest of measures never before witnessed in the history of our nation.  Click here to sign the petition, and please spread it far and wide.

Then share your thoughts – IS the rhetoric emanating from Holyrood about a “new normal” in our lives, sinister?  Should it worry us all?  Obviously by “worry” we understand – as Catholics – that we are in the constant care of Divine Providence, but in a purely human sense, should we be concerned that we may, like the poor Chinese and citizens of other totalitarian nations, emerge from this unprecedented lockdown without our personal freedoms fully restored?  Is that what is mean by the “new normal” – less personal freedom?  Fewer civil liberties?

Are We Morally Bound To Obey Coronavirus Restrictions / Laws?

Comment:

The Catechism of the Catholic Church on the duty of citizens towards the authorities in civil society:

The citizen is obliged in conscience not to follow the directives of civil authorities when they are contrary to the demands of the moral order, to the fundamental rights of persons or the teachings of the Gospel. Refusing obedience to civil authorities, when their demands are contrary to those of an upright conscience, finds its justification in the distinction between serving God and serving the political community. “Render therefore to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.” “We must obey God rather than men”:
When citizens are under the oppression of a public authority which oversteps its competence, they should still not refuse to give or to do what is objectively demanded of them by the common good; but it is legitimate for them to defend their own rights and those of their fellow citizens against the abuse of this authority within the limits of the natural law and the Law of the Gospel.
  (# 2242)

The question here, therefore, is this:  are the Governments of the UK overstepping their authority by requiring us to accept some very serious restrictions on our personal liberty, in the name of “saving lives” – when by all accounts, the majority of those who become infected with Covid-19 recover from it? A relative of mine believes he had the virus back in January;  he was sure it was simply flu, but because it was the worst-ever flu attack he’d ever experienced, he decided to visit his doctor.  He said the doctor asked him “a strange question” – had he been in China recently!  The answer was “no” and that is where that conversation ended.  This relative – who is very elderly, in his 80s – made a full recovery.

There is concern, therefore, that perhaps the lockdown restrictions are not only unnecessary (who quarantines the healthy?) but also too stringently enforced. The full force of the law…Really?  People stopped in the street, or pulled over in their car by the police, and asked to explain why they are outside of their home, destination etc.  Do we have to answer? Should we pay any fines imposed?  Is this a conscience issue, or would we be doing wrong to flout the State?

Covid-19 & Totalitarianism: Does USA Right to Bear Arms Make Sense Now?

Then there’s this warning from an American police officer…

Comment:

More than once we’ve discussed the American Second Amendment right to bear arms.  I’ve always taken the scaredy-cat attitude of “oops! better not!”  That Americans are queuing up to buy more and more guns,  then, some  who have never owned a gun before, made me think. And this was before the news was out that the World Health Organisation is telling us to prepare for authorised investigators to come into our homes to test us for the virus and remove anyone who tests positive.

I was recounting this news to a friend yesterday, who caught me by surprise when – a most gentle person – she asked, suddenly, where she could buy a gun: how to get a permit. I laughed it off, but it made me think. As did the very thoughtful policeman in the video above. Is it an American phenomenon, the possibility of bloodshed on the streets, or could that happen in the UK, as well?  If so, what to do?  Perhaps we should simply  redouble our efforts to persuade our political representatives to put an end to what seems to be a case of hurtling towards a permanent system of totalitarian government.

But, in case that doesn’t work, consider this:  if a government health official comes to your home and wants to remove a member of your family, how will you deal with it?

Let’s hear your ideas – both temporal and spiritual –  for overcoming this time of trial.

Our Lady of Fatima, pray for us!

Peter Hitchens On Loss of Our Liberty – A Lonely, Sane Voice in the Madness …

Comment:

Peter is considered a rebel by his peers in the media.  He is certainly a voice crying in the wilderness.

Is his voice one with which you find yourself agreeing?  Or are you with the majority who believe (according to the polls and anecdotal evidence) that the Government measures are necessary – and a good thing?

And what about his comments regarding social pressure e.g.  to wear face masks or be prohibited from entering shops? Will you continue to obey the State or will you join Peter and rebel?

What about his predictions of a financially painful future, where we will all – rich and not so well off – be poorer, in order to pay for these measures?

His remarks about those who were threatening to take the Government to court over Brexit but are not saying a word about the Government crackdown on our civil liberties now, resonated with me – what about you?  As did his rebuke to the churchmen who disappeared off the scene faster than the cowardly apostles in that first Holy Week.

Peter admits that everything he says about this situation may be wrong – what do  you think: IS he wrong?

“Blessed are the peacemakers”… Should Catholics Shun Hong Kong Protests ?

While our site statistics show we have fairly regular visits from both China and Hong Kong, it strikes me that we’ve never discussed the current volatile situation in Hong Kong.  While the news media in the UK restricts itself to reporting, narrowly, on “the protests”, a quick Google search reveals that Catholics are actively participating in this action.

Are they right to do so, albeit that they are calling for a peaceful solution?  Is participating in the street protests an appropriate way to achieve this aim?  Watching police in riot gear, ready for physical battle, brings to mind Christ’s teaching that “peacemakers” are blessed by God.  Are the Catholics of Hong Kong failing to heed Christ’s exhortation – or are they right to participate, actively, in the protests?  Is there another, better way, to achieve a peaceful solution?

By Royal Command: Stop Having [more than two] Children – Save the Planet!

Comment:

Having fallen for the climate change propaganda, Prince Harry has promised to do his bit – not by cycling or cutting down on those private jet flights, but (drum roll) by limiting his family to only two children.  Click here to read more

Now, not a lot of people are having more than two children these days (unless the original twosome doesn’t conform to the “one boy, one girl” package) but, still, his words send a signal which will encourage the gullible to follow his shocking example.  I’ve already had a “you had to hear it to believe it” conversation with a check-out assistant in a local supermarket who “worries” about climate change, to the extent that she told her married children that she doesn’t want grandchildren, for the sake of saving the planet.  And this was way before today’s news about Prince Harry’s and Meghan’s decision. Truly, you just couldn’t make this stuff up.

Although, somebody did – the pseudo-scientists who spread, and continue to spread, a message of fear and alarm about the end of the world, which, when it comes from Evangelical preachers rightly concerned about the wrath of God descending upon us, is laughed away as evidence of eccentricity.

Remember Climategate, folks?  Not a lot of people seem to remember it; it hasn’t featured in any of the recent reports about the extreme weather, or the “babies to blame” debates as the newspaper reviewers unthinkingly agree that Prince Harry has set the standard.  Fewer babies, better planet.  The same commentators who are  lamenting our departure from the EU with an end to freedom of movement and thus a shortage, they believe, of workers in many professions, are now supporting the Prince’s call for population control.  Laugh? I thought I’d never start.

When you hear a Prince promising to have “two maximum” children and China being praised for its one-child policy now turned two-child policy, is there really any doubt that population control is the real motive underlying the drive for “action” to deal with the “problem” of climate change?

Steve Bannon on Pope Francis, Trump, Theresa May & Brexit… Super-Duper!

Comment:

The above video interview lasts around 30 minutes – a bit longer than we usually like to publish, but you won’t want to miss a single word. Take a minute to watch the start – you’ll be hooked as the propaganda pins fall one by one…

Your thoughts will be welcome on any of the topics covered in this excellent interview.  Raymond Arroyo, as noted in the comments underneath the video on YouTube, is one of the few interviewers who allows his guest to speak, uninterrupted.  The so-called professionals on the main TV news channels could learn from him…  And what about Steve Bannon – is he hitting nails on heads, or what?     The mainstream media here in the UK doesn’t have a good word to say about him.  One wonders why… 😀
