Present in the public gallery watching this recent discussion in the Scottish Parliament, we see Leo Cushley, the Archbishop of St Andrew’s & Edinburgh, Barbara Coupar, the Director of the Scottish Catholic Education Service (SCES), and a group of students.
Not one item on Elaine Smith’s list singles out Catholic schools as being any different from any other school in Scotland or anywhere else in the UK.
Yet, (or which explains why) one Member of the Scottish Parliament (MSP) after another, praised Catholic schools to the skies.
The buzzwords are all there – inclusive, diversity blah blah, how Catholic schools are teaching about all religions, nothing to worry about here. Hiding in plain sight as ever, of course, the fact that the one religion not being taught in Catholic schools is Catholicism. Nobody asked why Catholic pupils are leaving Catholic schools able to name the five pillars of Islam but unable to name the precepts of the Church. I mean who teaches that Sunday Mass attendance is obligatory, any more? Or that sex outside of marriage (between one man and one woman) is sinful? Who teaches that any more? Nothing to see here, move along…
One useful comment in the video comes from Baptist, John Mason, MSP for Glasgow Shettleston – scroll to 39.50, to hear him argue that there should be room in “the public square” for the expression of faith-based values, just as humanists are allowed free rein to express their views.
John Swinney, MSP, SNP Minister for Education, the one and same John Swinney whom we saw squirming in another video as he defended the disgraceful sex teaching materials in use in Scottish schools, also sang the praises of Catholic schools. Pause for thought, right there, folks… He makes a point of telling us that his own son attends a Catholic (shared campus) school, no problem. And why would there be a problem? His son, like every other pupil in any Catholic school in Scotland, is never going to be taught that “outside the Catholic Church there is no salvation” – and other key dogmas. Not in a million years. Which is about as long as it is likely to take to end the current crisis in the Church and get back to teaching the Faith, entire and true, without any watering down to accommodate “society”.
If you haven’t yet booked your ticket for the Catholic Truth Education Seminar scheduled to take place next May, we strongly recommend that you do so as soon as possible – there is, after all, plenty to discuss…
As a matter of courtesy, I’ve emailed the link to this conversation to the three MSPs named in the above commentary – Elaine Smith, MSP, John Mason, MSP and John Swinney, MSP / Minister for Education in the Scottish Government. So, remember the House Rules – no personal remarks, no politics – stick to the issue(s).

Below, listen to the beautiful sermon delivered by Father Linus Clovis, well known pro-life priest who, to our delight, accepted our invitation to address our Conference in June, 2016 on the topic “Francis – A Pope For Our Times.” Here, he recounts two amazing miracles which are associated with the Miraculous Medal…
Only last Sunday after Mass, I was introduced to a young non-Catholic man who, for the first time, had attended the traditional Latin Mass, and in the course of the conversation he explained that he had turned his back on his worldly, Godless life. He was now “researching” the Faith and had been learning quite a bit about the crisis in the Church. It was a very interesting chat, but what struck me most forcibly was that a young mother who was participating in the conversation chose a moment to offer the young man a Miraculous Medal on a blue thread (encouraging him to find a chain in due course!) And, with the medal, she gave him a small explanatory booklet. In very few words, she exhorted him to wear the medal round his neck, as this was be the best possible help he would get in his research… He accepted the medal and booklet, so please pray for him.
It got me thinking, though, that many, probably most, Catholics would have held back, keen to be “prudent”, not want to put the young man off the Church by appearing to be too pushy.
Thus, it would be useful to learn from others the various ways in which each of us might spread devotion to this powerful sacramental. The young mother mentioned above, tells me that she carries some medals and leaflets with her when out and about, with the aim of trying to distribute one at every opporunity.
Your ideas – and stories of miracles associated with the medal – are very welcome on this thread.
Happy Feast of the Miraculous Medal, to one and all…
Abp Vigano: Pope is subjecting Church to ‘powerful forces’ that want world government
November 21, 2019 (LifeSiteNews) – For twenty centuries, the Catholic Church has professed faith in Jesus Christ, the only Savior, which has come down to us intact, as she received it from the Apostles and Fathers of the Church at the price of the blood of the Martyrs, and by the witness of the Confessors of the faith and of innumerable Saints of every people and language. This faith has been handed down by parents to their children, by priests and religious; it has been spread by zealous missionaries to every continent in the world, under the guidance of the successors of the Apostle Peter who have guaranteed the unity of Christ’s Bride by confirming the brethren in the faith.
For almost seven years now, the successor of the Prince of the Apostles, who was entrusted with the mandate Christ conferred on Peter after his profession of faith — “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God” (Mt 16:18) — has abdicated his ministry to confirm the brethren in the faith. Pope Francis has never confirmed anyone. We painfully acknowledge how divisive and destructive his ministry has been.
With the declaration he signed in Abu Dhabi, in which he states that “The pluralism and the diversity of religions, color, sex, race and language are willed by God in His wisdom,” and by his constant deviant condemnations of so-called “proselytism,” Francis has not only mortified every missionary impulse but has indeed rejected the mandate given by Christ to all the Apostles: “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you” (Mt 28:18-20).
The strategy of the current pontiff is camouflaged by deceit and lies, and concealed by silence, when it is discovered in his deviant intentions what great confusion among the faithful, while they are astutely praised by the enemies of the Church.
The Synod on the Amazon is also part of a much larger and hidden design. It is nothing but an element, albeit a disruptive one, of a vast project, developed under the aegis of the United Nations and supported by the great financial and Masonic powers. How can we explain that the Pachamama idol is already present, through a UN initiative, in texts designed for the ideological indoctrination of children? Click here to read more and here to read Archbishop Carlo Maria Viganò’s denunciation of plans approved by Pope Francis to erect a monument to “Human Fraternity” uniting Islam, Judaism and Catholicism, calling it “a Babylonic enterprise, designed by the enemies of God.”
While it is good that Archbishop Viganò continues to speak out and be reported in orthodox Catholic publications, it would be better if he spoke directly to the Pope in public – to say to him, face to face, what he is acknowledging in the above two linked Lifesitenews reports. Then we would see the mainstream media picking up what they would regard as a really good “story” – so why doesn’t he do this? It’s action long overdue, frankly. Same goes for Cardinal Burke and Bishop Schneider. Speak directly to the Pope in public – there must be opportunities and if not, surely you have the contacts to create them…
According to Pope Francis, acts such as the massive pollution of air, land and water resources, large-scale destruction of flora and fauna, and any action capable of producing an ecological disaster or destroying an ecosystem should be regarded as “ecocidal” and must not go unpunished. In this regard, he recalled the Synod for the Panamazon Region, which proposed to define an act or omission against God, against one’s neighbour, the community and the environment, as “ecological sin”. One of these days, he just might mention GOD!
Well, it had to come eventually. We’ve had a new Mass, new Sacraments, new Rosary, new Catechism, new Evangelisation, new everything, just about, so it’s time for (drum roll) a new sin. Obvious. Now all that has to be decided is, will this new sin be a mortal sin or a venial sin? What sort of penances will the priest give in confession – picking up litter in a street near you, at least three times (I get 3 Hail Marys a lot, so I’ll be livid if the litter picking penance is less than three times…) or maybe abstaining from driving your car for three days (three should always be the minimum, in my humble opinion…) OR what about sacrificing a holiday abroad for the next (you guessed it) three years?
Having caught the headline delivered with sombre affectation by the Sky News USA correspondent, Amanda Walker, prior to the televised hearings, and smelling the usual stitch-up, I decided to switch to the Parliament Channel and watch the proceedings live. I’m glad I did because what I saw (including the above hilarious clip) bore no resemblance to the later Sky News reports which I made a point of watching for comparison purposes. Apparently unaware of the the irony of her words, Amanda Walker took the camera to a particular woman in the queue waiting to go into the hearings, because this woman wanted to hear the evidence against the President for herself, “she doesn’t trust the media” confided Amanda to those of us, feet up in our living rooms, saying “neither do I!” Below, the headline just taken from the Sky News website…
Impeachment inquiry: Donald Trump ‘overheard asking about investigations’ Top US diplomats are giving evidence to a televised impeachment inquiry which could see the president removed from office.
Now watch the hilarious clip from this afternoon’s hearings and ask yourself if Donald Trump is even close to being removed from office.
For the purpose of this discussion, though [and I’m assuming that bloggers will have read John Ingram’s Open Letter to Anti-Trump Catholics in America, published on page 6 of our current, November, newsletter], the question has to centre on this: whether Catholics have any option but to vote Trump into a second term – given his excellent pro-life record and the fact that he is hated beyond words for it, by his political opponents who, it seems, will go to any and all lengths, even blatantly lying, to get rid of him.
If ever an impeachment inquiry was – manifestly – contrived, this has to be it… Or maybe you disagree?
The above tweet is quoted in this Mail Online reportabout Pope Francis’ alleged denial of the bodily resurrection of Christ
Deacon Donnelly’s observation is bang on the button. If Catholics held to even a slithering of authentic Catholic Faith, we would, indeed, be causing uproar, mayhem, to make crystal clear to Pope Francis that up with his anti-Catholic, and anti-Gospel, words and behaviour we will not put!
In the past, Catholics would pull dissident priests from their pulpits for preaching heresy but here we have a pope who is speaking and behaving in the most anti-Catholic, anti-Gospel manner imaginable, with bishops either defending him or remaining conveniently silent, and a passive laity, long conditioned by the multifarious “reforms” which have effectively changed the Faith of our Fathers into something which none of the great canonised saints would recognise.
The answer to Our Lord’s question, then: “When the Son of Man comes, will He find any Faith on earth?” (Luke 18:8) has to be, well, not in the UK. that’s for sure. And not in most other parts of the world. Not if He comes anytime soon.
Isn’t it long past time for the senior – allegedly concerned – Cardinals to actually dosomething to publicly rebuke this pontiff, instead of just giving interviews and writing books/articles which are unlikely to reach the majority of Catholic laity who, thus, in their ignorance, are being misled into error by him? Why has there been no major Press Conference, televised world-wide? Surely, that is the least we can expect from top churchmen at this very late stage in the worst ever crisis in the Church’s history?
As we prepare to go to the polls in the General Election on 12 December, it is worth reflecting on Church teaching and the principles which should guide us in deciding how to use our vote without violating God’s law.
Click here to read a guide prepared for American Catholics, which seems to be fairly comprehensive. I’ve not studied everything on that [EWTN] site, but I have checked out some key topics and I think we will all find it useful, and a source for fruitful discussion.
Below, a video clip from the trial of St Thomas More, saint and martyr, patron of lawyers and politicians, who has been an inspiration to many, including many who are not Catholics, because of his strong, conscientious insistence that God’s law must always be above any law created by man.
If the voting guide given in the introduction above still leave you with unanswered questions or doubts, feel free to ask for clarification on this thread.
Here, at Catholic Truth, we are apolitical and we discuss politics only in the context of our Catholic duty to be decent members of society, contributing, where possible, to the common good. Please, therefore engage in discussion in a spirit of respect, bearing in mind that the Church exhorts us to adhere to certain principles but does not dictate that we should support (or not) any particular political party. Our overall aim must be to take care not to offend God in the way we vote; not to support the transgression of His Moral Law. To this end we pray…
St Thomas More, intercede for us, and for all the politicians participating in the forthcoming election; guide and inspire us in the weeks ahead… Our Lady, Help of Christians, pray for us.
ENGLAND, November 4, 2019 (LifeSiteNews) – The Catholic diocese of Salford in north-west England has become the latest of multiple Catholic dioceses around the United Kingdom to begin hosting “LGBT+ Masses.” In Salford, as in the other dioceses, the LGBT+ Masses enjoy the support of their respective local bishops.
Advertisements for the Masses have become widely available in churches and on various official parish and diocesan websites. Many of these advertisements are emblazoned with the rainbow flag or popular Catholic images such as crosses or the Sacred Heart filled with the rainbow colours. Several of the groups involved in organizing these Masses take part in their local homosexual “pride” events.
In none of the advertisements or official publications about these Masses is the Catholic Church’s authoritative, constant teaching that homosexual sexual acts are inherently sinful made clear…
…This increase in LGBT+ Masses around the country has been welcomed by LGBT+ Catholics Westminster. This group has enjoyed the long-term support of Cardinal Vincent Nichols, who is both their local ordinary and the senior Catholic cleric in England. In March of this year, the group were given privileged seats at a papal audience in St Peter’s Square, Rome, after which they were invited to meet and take photographs with Pope Francis. They were introduced to Pope Francis by Martin Pendergrast, an ex-priest who has been in a civil union with Julian Filochowski, the former head of Cafod, since 2006…
…The diocese of Salford is the latest diocese in England to initiate an LGBT+ Mass — hosting its first such Mass on October 12 at Holy NameChurch in Manchester. On Sunday, October 6, Bishop Arnold publicised the Mass on the BBC Radio 4 Sunday morning programme Sounds.
In an email sent to the clergy of his diocese, Bishop Arnold reported his satisfaction with the event:
Thanks, I think, to good planning and organisation, the LGBT Mass went very well, and better than expected. The atmosphere was very good and the comments of people as they left were unanimously encouraging. There were something like 300 people there, a congregation which included family and friends and others who simply came along because they thought it was an important occasion. We must see now what the organisers might want to plan for the future. While it is good to recognise the needs of the group, it is also important not to organise things in such a way as to isolate them from parish life. There were just two voices of dissent present at the Mass and their discourtesy rather bankrupted the value of any statement that they might have wanted to make. My thanks to the Jesuit community who hosted the event at the Holy Name and to all who contributed to the occasion.
In the diocese of Clifton, an “LGBT+ Mass” began in March this year at the parish of St Nicholas of Tolentino in Bristol. The parish website makes clear that the Mass is happening at the request of Bishop Declan Lang, the local ordinary.
“Bishop Declan wishes to express pastoral care and concern for our Catholic LGBT+ community and so has asked St Nicholas of Tolentino Church to celebrate a series of Masses for this community and their friends and family and all who wish to take part.” The same website also displays an image of a sculpture of Our Lord’s Sacred Heart, crowned with a cross, and painted in the colours of the rainbow flag. The parish promotes its Mass with a poster that includes an image of a cross filled with rainbow colours.
The Masses are also being advertised on the official diocesan website.
Please visit the Lifesitenews page here to read the entire report and see ALL of the photos and read about the bishops who, like those above, are manifestly steeped in evil … namely…
Bishop Peter Doyle, diocese of Northampton
Bishop Patrick McKinney, Nottingham
Bishop Terry Drainey, diocese of Middlesbrough
Cardinal Vincent Nichols, archdiocese of Westminster
On a recent thread, we discussed the fact that England has “many” exorcists. Little wonder. The English hierarchy has become more and more brazen in its support for the grave LGBT+ sin. The bishops are now openly not merely “tolerating” this evil, but publicly embracing and endorsing it.
Still, with the Pope himself welcoming LGBT lobby groups and participating in pagan worship within the walls of the Vatican, we can’t be too surprised.
Obviously, we need to step up our spiritual efforts – prayer and penance – in order to appease God and win the grace of conversion for all involved but is there anything else we can do? I was originally planning to list the email addresses for the dioceses named here and urging us all to contact each bishop, but I changed my mind. We’ve been there, done that and bought every T shirt in the shop. Beyond, therefore, public “naming” [if not shaming – they’re brazen now] is there anything else we can do to end scandals like these shocking, sacrilegous, if not blasphemous “Masses” – I mean, can they really be Masses?
Don’t be fooled by the way these Masses are pitched as being for “LGBT and families” – that’s a cover. I’ve never seen any Masses advertised for serial killers and families, have you? Or bank robbers and families, have you? No, for whatever reason (and the possibilities are chilling: the American Cardinal, now plain old ‘Mr’, McCarrick springs to mind) these bishops have embraced – as normal and acceptable – the entire range of depraved behaviour and “identities” known euphemistically as LGBT+
In a small act of reparation for the blasphemous use of images of the Sacred Heart, we pray, Jesus Mercy! Mary, Help!
Your [printable] thoughts welcome…
Oh Sacred Heart of Jesus, we place all our trust in Thee…
“Remember that you have only one soul; that you have only one death to die; that you have only one life, which is short and has to be lived by you alone; and there is only one Glory, which is eternal. If you do this, there will be many things about which you care nothing…” (St Teresa of Avila)
As ever, we remember the souls of the faithful departed during the month of November, praying for them and perhaps seeking indulgences to be applied to them. So, share your favourite prayers and hymns, quotes from saints, books and edifying stories which may help us to understand better the reality of Purgatory – in order to
