Scots Bishops, Climate Change, Lack of Faith (or even) Christian Perspective…

Do not worry about tomorrow… tomorrow will take care of itself (Matt 6:34)

“In a letter to the Daily Telegraph, faith leaders have called on the government to set a net zero greenhouse gas emissions target in law to halt climate change.

The letter is signed by more than 40 representatives of Christian, Jewish, Muslim, Buddhist and Hindu communities.

A report from the government’s climate advisers, the Committee on Climate Change, says that a net zero target is needed to avoid temperature rises exceeding the 1.5C level which would be disastrous for hundreds of millions of the world’s poorest people.

Politicians urged to ‘show leadership’ on climate change

letter says:

“The UK government must take the opportunity created by yesterday’s report from the Committee on Climate Change to commit to eliminating our country’s contribution to global temperature rises.

“The urgency and scale of action required necessitates a legally-binding target of net zero emissions by 2045.

“Such a target demands a cross-governmental approach and one which does not rely on offsets or outsourcing of carbon emissions to poorer nations – the very countries which are being hit hardest by climate change, despite having contributed least to the problem.
“We readily recognise this means changing our lifestyles and behaviours.

“Indeed, we welcome the benefits that will follow, including cleaner air and warmer homes. Our country’s faith communities have already begun to embrace these changes, with thousands of places of worship powered by renewable energy and families committing to live simply and sustainably.

“We now urge our country’s politicians to show leadership of the magnitude demanded by the challenge we face and encourage them to consider the extraordinary legacy they could leave.”  Ends.      Source

Comment:

Two Scottish Bishops have signed the above letter – The Most Revd Leo Cushley JCD –   Archbishop of St Andrews and Edinburgh and The Rt Revd Joseph Toal – Bishop of Motherwell; I suppose the miracle is that only two have signed it, so maybe we should be thankful for small mercies.  For England & Wales,  The Rt Revd John Arnold – Bishop of Salford; lead bishop on environmental affairs for the Catholic Church in England and Wales signed.  “Environmental affairs”?  Are they kidding?  Is there a bishop anywhere, who is, however remotely, interesting in “Faith Affairs”?  For pity’s sake.  Gimme patience!

The above link came to me from Patrick,  a reader (in Scotland, I think, but he can correct that in the comments if I’m wrong) and he included the following message – I really can’t think of anything to add so I’ll close with Patrick’s remarks:

[This letter] is a perfect example of the perfidity of our Catholic leaders, and their embrace of the pagan global warming religion in lock step with our Pontiff.

I don’t know if you saw a piece from Pope Francis’ “global warming attack dog” Cardinal Turksen this week where he tells us all we must stop breathing out (carbon dioxide) as this essential plant food will cause the world to end in ten years.

Last week our Pope made a long overdue attack on the culture of death called abortion. In the US alone, 60 million innocent lives have been sacrificed to the godless Gaia since infanticide was legalised.

Then in the next breath he commends the New world order and the IPPC which says we need to reduce the world’s population to under one thousand million (in New money) to “save the planet from global warming”

Can some one advise this old curmudgeon how to hang on to the vestiges of his Catholic faith when surrounded by Satanic leaders?

Sorry for the rant, but my tether is stretched to its limit.  [Ed:  welcome to the club!]

  1. That’s very disappointing about the Scots bishops joining this delusional climate change campaign. I wonder just what they mean by us all changing our behaviours etc? I want to know what changes they are making to their behaviour.

The Scottish government have made plans for us all to fork out money to replace our boilers and purchase other gadgets to improve our climate footprint or whatever they call it, so I see the whole thing as a money-making enterprise as well as, of course, a means of reducing the population. It’s all really sinister.

To answer Patrick’s question about how to keep the faith, I say just ignore everything that bishops and priest say on this sort of nonsense and keep praying.

  2. My advice to Patrick would be to keep on writing, as he obviously has mastered the art of hitting the nail on the head.

Meanwhile, it seems that the false, pagan religion of environmentalism, whose sacred scriptures are hypothetical computer models having no connection to reality, has supplanted every other world religion, both true and false. “There’s a sucker born every minute” comes to mind.

I’d wager that not one of the useful idiots who signed this document could give a definition of “net zero emissions.” These poor fools just toss about scientific-sounding phrases as if they know what they’re talking about, but what they’re talking about is snake oil.

This cowardly genuflecting before a palpable fraud, without even bothering to question it, reminds me of my trip to the supermarket a few years ago to buy some fresh salmon. The sign on the display case informed me that their fresh salmon was “sustainable.” I asked the butcher what that meant, and he had no clue. Sustainable salmon! Does that mean it agreed to restrict its reproduction to only 2 baby salmon? Does that mean it agreed to swim to Planned Parenthood for an abortion, should it conceive of any baby salmon beyond the limit of 2? Does that mean it figured out how to sustain its own life without CO2? Does that mean it agreed not to drink water through a plastic straw? What about agreeing to deposit its excretions in a steel vault, so it wouldn’t pollute the water?

Yes, there’s something very fishy about “sustainable salmon.”

I think we should also pay close attention to a phrase in that letter which conceals, in plain view, the real objective of this farce: “We readily recognise this means changing our lifestyles and behaviours.” In other words, we agree to submit ourselves to crushing taxation and the complete and utter control of our lives to unaccountable bureaucrats spitting out their fiats, disguised as earth-saving benevolent wisdom, at their computers.

Finally, while I’m ranting, I had to laugh at this: “Indeed, we welcome the benefits that will follow, including cleaner air and warmer homes.” Please tell us, O Useful Idiots, how warmer homes will result from curing “global warming”??

    • RCA Victor,

I’m guessing that Patrick didn’t see your comment at time of posting or he’d have included you in his expression of gratitude, because your post is nothing short of hilarious!

All wise words and I’ll now be on the lookout (when shopping at the local supermarket) for “sustainable salmon” and anything else, and will make a point of asking what that means – I already take every opportunity to point out that there are no plastic bags or people on Mars but they still have this “warming” problem apparently – blank faces in response every time… you have to laugh! • Editor,

I would like to submit herewith my application for the new position of Assistant Editor for Environmental Affairs at Catholic Truth, in conjunction with my present position, “Vice-President in Charge of Sitting By the Door.”

In support of my application, I can supply three professional references, which will all be in the form of computer-generated holograms, in keeping with the nature of the subject at hand.

        (FF to 1:25)

  3. Thanks our esteemed Editor(ix?) and Laura for the guidance.

If you thought this was reprehensible, then you should visit the SCIF website and curser down to their global warming section.
They apparently have a lassie on their payroll who swans around the world in carbon dioxide spewing aircraft to attend global warming conferences. In addition they (sciaf) have an “outreach” programme where they visit Catholic schools to indoctrinate the gullible children in the global warming religion. This I might add with the connivance and full support of the majority of the scientifically illiterate teachers in Scotland.
Now you may well ask where does the finance for these jollies and Marxist indoctrination come from if not from the money tree.
Well I presume most mass goers will be familiar with the Sciaf wee boxes. These are religiously filled by the poor innocent wifies in the pews leading up to Easter. In the un likely event of any shortfall I am sure that that great satanic benefactor Mr George Soros (spelling? Ed: corrected by me.) will make up any shortfall, just as he sponsored the Irish queer marriage, recent divorce and pro infanticide referenda in Ireland.
Ps I am a Galway refugee living in Angus these happy fortythree years.
My wonderful wife celebrated fifty years of married bliss a few weeks ago. I celebrated my golden wedding, and foolishly signed on for another fifty!

    • Patrick,

Congratulations to you and Mrs Healy and I’m sure the next fifty will be every bit as happy! Unless you make the same mistake as this dope…

  4. R E M I ND E R . . .

Today, Feast of the Ascension of Our Lord into Heaven, is a holyday of obligation.

So, for those who wish to “sustain” their spiritual iives and save their souls, if not
the planet 😀 don’t forget to attend Holy Mass.

  5. It seems the environmental madness knows no end.

That Catholic Bishops put their names to such letters surely indicates that they have nothing useful to say about the Catholic faith.

It seems like a desperate attempt for relevance. Yet, just as the Vatican 2 experiment is a failure because protestants already exist, so too will these stunts achieve nothing because environmental bed-wetters already exist.

The Bishops need to get on with being Bishops, instead of 2nd rate .

While I believe in responsible stewardship of the earth, I reject environmental scare stories – which, over 40+ years have continually been shown to be bogus. I also think the radical green movements are fundamentally vehicles for social control and far left politics.

    • Gabriel Syme,

That’s what puzzles me – the string of predictions of dire consequences in 10 years, x number of years, with none of it coming true, yet the majority of people are now speaking of the “fact” that we only have 12 years to sort out the planet before BOOM!

      Crazy.

      • Editor & Gabriel Syme,

It’s Chicken Little, the Boy Who Cried Wolf and the Big Bang theory all rolled into one! Worthy of ridicule, nothing less.

  6. This threat is very real and we must Believe Our Pope and Nic Sturgeon if they say it’s real . Also am sure that when the Pope and his Multiple Followers on his Private Airplane which probably burns more Fuel in one start up than al use in a Lifetime. After all didn’t he go to China to tell them not to build a Coal Firing Power Station every week or was that the part of his long ( pardon the pun ) Winded speeches that I missed. Isn’t it Funny that the worst Two Countries for Burning Fozzil Fuel China and Indian were exempt from The United Nations Deal . And they Castigated President Donald Trump for telling them to stick it . Our Last Deep Coal Mine in Nottingham that was closed with Approximately 400 Years High Class Coal underground was a National Disgrace that hardly got a Mention in the MSM . It was shut and sealed by call Me Dave while he was PM with Thousands of Jobs and £100Million of Equipment scrapped down the Pit . What happened next. We now import Coal from Frau Merkel. Al now have a look 👀 out of my back Window to see if those Windmills are turning before I switch on the TV to see if I have enough power to watch Columbo. Give me strength. Itwidgieyeitheboak.

  7. All this is a great dishonesty. It is a false pretext to loot and ruin us…
Global warming and cooling are just a cycle that has always existed.
It is up to God to make decisions.
