  1. What a beautiful sermon! It had never struck me before that Our Lady said at Fatima that she had come to establish devotion to her Immaculate Heart – I knew she’d said that but it didn’t actually really hit home until I heard that sermon. It just shows you the importance of good preaching.

Fr Higgins seems very young to be so sound. It gives me hope for the future.

    • MM,

I have it on very good authority that Fr Mark Higgins is a very sound priest, clued into the issues of the day. He offers the TLM (I think, 4 times a week) and I’m told that when he has to say the novus ordo he uses Eucharistic Prayer 1 exclusively, and says the old offertory prayers, plus double genuflection at consecration. He is also seen, not at the church door shaking hands with all and sundry after Mass, but gets straight on his knees for thanksgiving.

I’ve listened to a couple of his sermons on video (in some he wears the biretta) and they are all very good, so it is, as you indicate, heartening to find young priests who are solid in their Faith and not afraid to preach it.

    • Margaret Mary,

I agree – I’d never really thought of the devotion to the Immaculate Heart of Mary as being the reason for the Fatima appearances. It’s mind blowing.

      • Nicky,

I’m the same. That sermon on devotion to the Immaculate Heart really does get down to the nuts and bolts of Fatima.

I only wish he had spent a bit more time on the Consecration of Russia. I expect he has to watch a bit and not say too much but we could use a priest who calls for the Pope to consecrate Russia without delay, things are getting very serious now on the world stage.

  2. I haven’t watched the video yet, but if anyone asks ‘Why devotion to the Immaculate Heart’ – the answer is simple – God wishes it! Our Lady told the seers at Fatima on June 13, 1917:- “He wants to establish in the world devotion to My Immaculate Heart. To whoever embraces this devotion I promise salvation; these souls shall be dear to God, as flowers placed by Me to adorn His throne.””

    • WF,

That’s a beautiful image at the gloriaTV link – many thanks for posting that.

And this: “To whoever embraces this devotion I promise salvation; these souls shall be dear to God, as flowers placed by Me to adorn His throne.”” is a real incentive to increase/develop devotion to the Immaculate Heart.

Again, thank you for your comment and links.

  3. Gosh, what a great priest and preacher! I went looking for one of the sermons wearing a biretta and found this excellent sermon. How on earth did this priest get through the seminary? How does he get away with this preaching?

    • That’s a fabulous sermon. So outspoken. First class. If only there were more priests like him.

The top video is also excellent. What a terrific priest. I thought the days of sermons like that were long gone so glad to be proved wrong!

      • That is a great sermon and one of the things that make it so great is that he speaks about “you” – straight to the congregation, none of the usual “we are all sinners” but YOU are etc. I really like him.

  4. I completely agree with everyone about Fr Higgins. His sermons are excellent. He makes important points in a way that can be understood by everyone, easily. I’ve only listened to each video once but I am going to watch them again, as I’m sure I will gain every time I revisit them.

  5. Madam Editor,

I have a feeling none of this would go down well on that ‘Premier Christianity’ blog….. The ‘Mary-phobia’ of some of those contributors was breathtaking.

    • Pat McKay,

Yes, it was, indeed. At least, though, the moderator (CofE minister) allowed our comments to be published and remain, and he deleted some of the nastier responses.

      • Didn’t you just love that one…..’why do I say the Mother of Christ is Holy? – only God is Holy’….

Well, as soon as she agreed ‘let what you have said be done unto me’, Our Lord became inseparably one flesh with His Mother for nine months until His birth. How could she be anything OTHER than Holy??

What planet are these ‘Christians’ on??

  6. We have often repeated on this blog, to schismatics and sedevacantists as well as to the discouraged, that, despite appearances, Our Lord is still in charge of His Church. Well, if ever there was a sign of this infallible truth it is in this young Pious Priest, Fr. Mark Higgins, and so many other young priests now coming through the ranks.

What a holy priest he is, a priest devoted to Our Lady’s Immaculate Heart, which is probably why he’s so holy. This is where all priests need to be in relation to Our Lady if they want to win souls for heaven. Fr. Higgins spoke of the importance of cultivating devotion to the Immaculate Heart if we wish to be sanctified. But how much more important is this for the clergy? If the clergy lead the line in cultivating devotion to Our Lady’s Immaculate Heart then there is great hope that the present crisis will give way to a new era of holiness in the Church and a restoratiuon of all things in Christ in the world. It has to begin at the top, however, with the Pope and the bishops, as Our Lady requested. They have to make that public act of consecrating Russia to the Immaculate Heart as a sign that they have that faith in heaven’s promises that Fr. Higgins said was one of the crowning glories of the Blessed Virgin. To trust in God with faith instead of playing worldly politics and committing the sin of human respect with compromised acts of consecration that please everyone but God.

It is primarily this faith and trust in God that is absent in the Church’s hierarchy, who don’t consent with humility as Our Lady did to God’s plan for the salvation of men. They play down Our Lady’s role in salvation seeking rather to follow their own lights and falling into the darkness of false and fatal ecumenism.

I was greatly heartened by this young priest and his sermons, especially since the voice of Fr. Gruner was so suddenly silenced by death. Please God, the Fr. Higgins’ of this world will grow greatly in number alongside other great marian priests like Fr. Karl Stehlin (SSPX) who has taken on the task of resurrecting St. Maximillian Kolbe’s Militia Immaculatae. God grant us many more priests like these.

    • Athanasius,

Perfectly said! I couldn’t agree more. If only all the Fr Higgins’ of this world would stand up and be counted. I hope they would outnumber the dissenters.

I have added the Consecration of Russia and the Pope’s conversion to my daily rosary intention after reading that RCA Victor did this, so let’s hope we don’t have too long to wait for all the prayers going up for these intentions to be answered in this important year of the Fatima centenary.

      • Margaret Mary,

Sorry, but most of the priests I hear about who are supposed to be conservative or traditional, are keeping their heads down and will only come out of the woodwork when it is safe to do so. They are cowards. I have no time for them at all. I’ve heard of priests who can say the old Mass but won’t say it publicly in case they annoy their bishop. I call them cowards.

    • Athanasius,

You are so right – it is priests like Fr Higgins that confirm to us that Our Lord has not abandoned his Church. In fact, this thread reminds me of the Eucharistic Miracles thread for that reason – they both show that the Church is surviving the novus ordo – LOL!

  7. I can only add that I agree with everything everyone has said. Thank God for priests like Fr Higgins.

  8. Tradition-minded priests who, unlike Father Higgins, are keeping their heads down to stay out of trouble with their bishops, liturgical committees, priest councils, liberal parishioners, or whomever, should read Priest, Where Is Thy Mass? to get some inspiration and courage. Every single one of the priests interviewed stood up against the phony revolution and succeeded, despite varying degrees of tribulation, and are now celebrating exclusively the Traditional Mass. Not only did they stand up against it, they saw right through it.

  9. I’ve now watched both videos and they are every bit as good as everyone is saying. What a marvellous priest. We should pray hard for him (to the Immaculate Heart of Mary) that he does not compromise if he is put to the test. I can’t imagine his brother priests giving him an easy time. God bless him for his courage.
