  1. I can highly recommend this fantastic book called ‘The Devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus’ by Fr John Croiset SJ – TAN books ISBN: 9780895553348. https://www.tanbooks.com/index.php/devotion-to-the-sacred-heart-of-jesus-how-to-practice-the-sacred-heart-devotion.html

Please let others know about it.

The cover states that this book “is not ‘just another book on the Sacred Heart devotion’, but it can be truly said to be THE book on this devotion. Written by the spiritual director of St Margaret Mary, the book comes from the pen of a man intimately familiar with every aspect of the revelations given by Our Lord to this famous saint; thus the book is actually the ‘key’ to understanding the importance and the centrality of the Sacred Heart devotion for our lives as true Catholics. But even more than being THE book on the Sacred Heart devotion, Fr Croiset’s work is a revelation to us all just why so few people become great saints, just why so few Catholics – despite going frequently to the Sacraments – fail really to grow in the life of grace and make great progress in the spiritual order. ‘Devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus’ was actually commissioned by Our Lord Himself through St Margaret Mary, and as the author neared completion of it, the Saint told him that Our Lord said it was so completely in accord with His wishes, that it would never be necessary to make any change in it. Later she revealed to Fr Croiset that it was Our Lord Himself who had inspired him with the ideas in this book and that it was so pleasing to Him that ‘none other but Himself could have arranged everything so much to His wishes . . . ”

Now if that hasn’t whetted your spiritual appetite . . . ! I think most English Catholic booksellers stock this book. I hope this info has been of help.

    • Westminster Fly,

“Now if that hasn’t whetted your spiritual appetite…”

It has whetted my appetite! Thank you very much.

  2. I came on to ask about the devotion and hey presto, Westministerfly has posted the very thing! Thanks. I’ve just ordered it.

  3. The Nine First Fridays

Our Blessed Lord appeared to St Margaret Mary on many occasions. Four apparitions, known as the “Great Revelations” took place between 1673 and 1675. During these revelations, Our Blessed Lord requested the following:-

The institution of a Holy Hour in memory of His Agony in the Garden of Gethsemane (St Margaret Mary was asked to do this from 11pm to midnight on Thursday nights; a practice we could imitate).

A Communion of Reparation to be received on the First Friday of each month.

A Feast in honour of His Sacred Heart, to be kept on the Friday after the octave of Corpus Christi.

    Consecration to His Sacred Heart.

Our Blessed Lord gave twelve promises to St Margaret Mary for souls who would practice devotion to His Sacred Heart:-

    1. I will give them all the graces necessary for their state of life.

    2. I will establish peace in their homes.

    3. I will console them in all their afflictions.

    4. I will be their secure refuge during life and especially at the hour of death.

    5. I shall bestow abundant blessings on all their undertakings.

    6. Sinners shall find in My Heart the source and ocean of infinite mercy.

    7. Tepid souls shall become fervent.

    8. Fervent souls shall rise rapidly to a high degree of perfection.

    9. I will bless every place where an image of my Sacred Heart shall be exposed and honoured.

    10. I will give to priests the power to touch the hardest hearts.

    11. Those who shall promote this devotion shall have their names written in My Heart, never to be blotted out.

    12. I promise you in the excessive mercy of My Heart, that My all-powerful love will grant to all those who receive Communion on the First Friday of every month, for nine consecutive months, the grace of final repentance, and that they shall not die without receiving the Sacraments, and that My Divine Heart shall be their safe refuge in that last moment.

    • Westminster Fly,

I have moved house and intend to buy a picture of the Sacred Heart as soon as possible. I believe there is an especially beautiful image of both the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary created by a priest called Fr Bing, I think, and it is available on the internet so I plan to explore to find that if possible. any help from others to locate that website would be appreciated.

      • Theresa Rose,
I’m a bit wary about Fr Bing. He is sound in many ways, but also involved with charismatic-like healing type events. If you want a picture of the Sacred Heart and the Immaculate Heart, I think you can do no better than this. The chapel in the convent at Coimbra, Portugal, where Sister Lucia resided, houses two beautiful statues of the Sacred and Eucharistic Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary. I have read that the design of these statues was dictated by Our Lord to Sister Lucia, who passed Our Lord’s requests on to the sculptor. I have seen them in the chapel at Coimbra and they are stunningly beautiful. I looked around on the internet and eventually found pictures of the actual statues. A man called Sam Nardone has taken pictures of them professionally and has created one in which he puts both statues side by side together. I emailed him a while back and asked if he would send me a high-resolution jpeg image, which I could get printed up to make a picture for my room. He sent me the image, which I had printed by a photographic company and then framed. I’m very pleased with the result. If you like, I could email the high-resolution image to EditorCT and then she could forward it to you and you could get it printed. I could give you the name of the company I used. They were not expensive. In the meantime, you can see the image here on Mr Nardone’s website (the jpeg image I have doesn’t have the writing on it):- http://www.thegoldenprayer.org/thumbnails/FIRSTSATURDAYROSARY.pdf

        • Westminsterfly,

Thank you for letting me know about Fr Bing.

I still want a picture of the Sacred Heart and Immaculate Heart. The link to the website you provided shows a beautiful picture.

I would be absolutely delighted if you could email EditorCT the high resolution image and the name of the company you used to print it.

Thank you so much, especially prior to this coming First Friday.

  4. John6,

Thank you for that video – it’s so peaceful listening to the chants.

However, I’m not keen on the Divine Mercy picture – I prefer the traditional pictures of the Sacred Heart.

Anyway, thanks again for posting the video.

  5. Madame Editor,

Friday June 12th is the Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, and it is also the Golden Jubilee of the Ordination of Fr. Alan Rolph who served the SSPX as an affiliated priest for many years until ill-health intervened.

He does not have an e-mail address but if any fellow bloggers would like to send a card to commemorate this great day in his life, I am convinced he would be very moved.

I am not sure he would like his private address publicising, so if cards could be sent to:

    The Editor,
    Catholic Truth
    10 Sandyford Place
    Glasgow
    G3 7NB

for onward transmission to myself, I will see that he receives them on the day.

Please keep this good priest in your prayers.

    • Leprechaun,

We have Father Rolph’s address so if any cards arrive I will post them on.

      Catholic Truth
      at your service!

        • Leprechaun,

I’m sorry (and ashamed) to say that with all that has been going on this week, I completely forgot about Fr Rolph’s jubilee, so no card from me, I’m afraid. He wrote us a lovely supportive letter some years ago, too, so I’d planned to send him my congratulations.

Thank you for the reminder anyway. Remind me when it’s the next landmark – Diamond? !

  6. I thought it was about time to post another devotional few minutes in the form of one of my favourite Sacred Heart hymns – Sweet Heart of Jesus. Not many videos versions of this particular hymn out there, so I chose this one – hope you all enjoy it…
