  1. In the columns assigned to him in the UK-wide Catholic Times and Scottish Catholic Observer Monsignor Loftus, retired priest of the Diocese of Leeds now living in the Diocese of Aberdeen, never misses a chance to take a swipe at the “costumes” and “pomp” of the Traditional Latin Mass which he likes about as much as the rest of us like cyanide. In equal measure to his hatred of the old rite Mass, he demands “creativity” in the new. I think it’s reasonable to assume, therefore, that the above circus is Monsignor Loftus’s cup of tea, and that the same applies to all the other merchants of “creativity” in the Mass.

The American lady who emailed me the link to this shocking video, asked, in despair, “when is it all going to end” – I replied “when the Consecration of Russia is carried out.”

I’m afraid that may still be some way off – so those of you still not informed or convinced enough to abandon the parish Mass, please brace yourself because this kind of sick joke is very likely to be on offer where you live, in the not too far distant future. And don’t tell me your priest is different, that he’s orthodox he says Mass with reverence: if he’s not had the courage to date to dispense with the routine liturgical abuses of Communion in the Hand and lay people distributing Holy Communion, he won’t want to incur the wrath of the bishop by saying “no” to further liturgical chaos.

    • Absolutely shocking stuff! I’ll take it the three men swinging around on the spinning top were the bishops! And to think that Pope Francis is hosting his World Youth Day among those Brazilian pagans in a few weeks time. Will His Holiness act against the perpetrators of this sacrilege? Somehow I doubt it. Somehow I think we might see some more of the same at WYD. Sincerely hope I’m wrong. How much longer, O Lord!

    • Oh come on Ed that’s the worst case of reductio ad absurdum I’ve seen on here in a while. You have basically said If a good solid orthodox priest allows communion in the hand etc then the next stage is the abomination in the video…in your own words gerragrip.

On a technicality since there is an indult for communion in the hand it is not a liturgical abuse.

Yes videos like this are shocking and in no way appropriate however (and this may surprise you) that’s not the normal manner of Mass in the Ordinary Form, these are exceptions and I certainly have not witnessed anything like this either at home or abroad!

      • Nolite Timere,

I agree with you that this shocking footage does not indicate that all priests who celebrate the Novus Ordo, including the administration of Communion in the hand, are about to turn the Mass into a circus, or would ever contemplate the sacrilege witnessed in that video.

However, two things are very clear. The first is that that scandal in Brazil, the latest of countless like-atrocities, demonstrates without doubt that the New Mass is inherently flawed and is therefore a danger to Catholic souls and should be scrapped immediately. There is no precedent in the Church for such liturgical abuse as this, nor indeed for the perpetrators to get away with it. Something has gone very seriously wrong.

The second point is that while Communion in the hand is an “Indult,” its validity depends on the implementation of in-depth Catechetical preparation of the faithful (see Memoriale Domine). The fact that this strict rule for validity is rarely if ever applied means that the Indult in most cases is legally void.

Besides that, I cannot for the life of me understand how anyone who believes in the Real Presence of Our Lord could EVER contemplate handling the Blessed Sacrament, it is just unthinkable to me. I can certainly understand how the young, those who don’t remember the faith before Vatican II, could be led into thinking it’s ok, but the older generation, those who do remember the Church’s great reverence towards the Sacred Species, they are a different breed altogether.

And to cast aside so easily the Church’s teaching in the matter over so many centuries, the fact that she had moved away from this very dangerous practice 1500 years ago, forbidding it under pain of excommunication as far back as the 6th century, beggars belief and indicates a definite slide towards Protestantism. It is, after all, the Protestant, not early Christian, form of Communion in the hand that the conciliar liberals have introduced, and illicitly to boot. It really is shocking stuff that Catholics could never have anticipated before the Council. Horrible!

      • Nolite Timere,

Sure, I may well have exaggerated a little to make the point – the point being that the new Mass is, by its very nature, inviting scandalous abuses and (in my humble view) informed Catholics should not stick around for the lowering of the final curtain – which, according to my beloved Cardinal Ranjith should be within the next 20 years.

I understand that there some priests who are trying to be conscientious,* have (shockingly) never known any other Mass, and who insist that they are doing their best to pray reverent Masses, and of course this kind of circus is not the norm here – yet. Given the scope for “creativity” in the new Mass, however, I do not believe that we’ve far to travel until we see this sort of scandal occurring here. After all, we don’t need to travel to Brazil to meet nuts. Clever that. Think about it…

Talking about nuts, read Monsignor Loftus’s weekly columns in the Catholic Times where he extols the virtues of creativity in the liturgy and the need for participation by the laity, yawn, yawn, and watch to see how long it takes him now to advocate girl altar boys on roller skates. Won’t be long – trust me…

So, no, Nolite Timere, I reject your charge despite its being delivered in impeccable Latin. I deny the charge, absolutely, of … those Latin words…. ad absurdum reduction (ahem) reductio ad absurdum … (ahem) – whatever… Not true, I tell you! It’s all lies! I demand a retraction and an apology – in Latin! Immediately!

        * I can now reveal that I have been in the habit of meeting some of these conscientious clergy for tea and cakes in Bradford’s Tea Room in Sauchiehall Street, for quite some time now so you can imagine my shock horror a couple of nights ago when it was announced on national Scottish Television News that Bradford’s has now closed its doors, a victim of the recession. I wept a sorry weep, I can tell you. A very sad day for Catholic Truth, because Bradford’s is where we met to plan our next campaign, where we met our various top secret sources and where, as I have just divulged, we plied any sympathetic clergy we could find with pots of tea and fresh cream cakes. Those, as they say, were the days…

    • I completely agree about Monsignor Loftus. His articles are getting worse and worse and he is honing in on pomp and ceremony. I hope someone sends him that video – although he’d probably praise it in the Catholic Times.

  2. On catching sight of the clerics in the latter frames, some clearly uncomfortable, others lapping it up and clapping away, it reminds me of a few things, more closely linked than would initially make sense:

The teacher who would encourage clapping along with an abysmal version of the Gloria or similar at school Masses, whilst most people look on with a mix of embarrassment, hilarity or disgust. The video of the beheadings in Syria a few weeks ago, witnessing a bloodthirsty crowd whipped up in zealous fervour. Most will be privately disgusted, certainly not entirely acquiescing if taken privately aside, but part of the unanimity of the evil mob nonetheless. I compared that with the sufferings of Our Blessed Lord at that time, and insist these very sentiments of inner revulsion are suppressed and indeed reversed in such sacrilegious parody.

May God have mercy on us all within His Church at this time, that the intoxicated driver may arise from comatose without further loss I souls. Better that we were St. Paul in open, nonetheless reasoned persecution of Christ, than be sharing the wheel of the vehicle as it breaches the clifftop. It may be a necessary chastisement that we collectively hit the bottom though.

  3. Crossraguel,

On catching sight of the clerics in the latter frames, some clearly uncomfortable, others lapping it up and clapping away…

I was so intrigued by your opening words, quoted above, that I watched that debacle right through again, with the sound off. For the life of me, I cannot see a single uncomfortable cleric (or lay person) in that film.

Enlighten me, please, by pointing me to an actual “uncomfortable” face. All I can see is clapping, grinning, smiling and general “WOW! Isn’t this fun!” looks on the faces of everyone, but everyone present.

    Athanasius,

I’m still laughing at your comment about the three spinning men being the bishops. Would not be surprised, one bit. Not one bit.

    • editor,

At risk of my judgement being deemed wayward, the cleric to the right of the lectern in the latter frames appears to be uncomfortably fidgeting with his booklet, rather than enthusiastically clapping away like the one further along. Likewise within the congregation there are evidently those more comfortable and ‘getting with the spirit of it’ and those who look awkward. My reckoning anyhows, and evidence to my mind of a malign conscience squirming in the presence of such downright insults before God.

  4. It reminds me of that film ‘Wicker Man’. Is that young woman in the basket on top of the spinning thing going to be sacrificed?

  5. As I recall, I read somewhere recently of the term “full communionies” being used to describe those neo-cons who like to wag their fingers at Catholics who believe and wish to worship as every orthodox Catholic did up to the 1960s. The writer then used the abbreviated term “full commies”. I wish I knew where I read this, in order to give due credit, because it strikes me as a rather useful term.

Whether they like it or not, the full commies have to be confronted repeatedly with all the countless liturgical abuses, as exemplified above, until such time as they finally open their eyes and ears to the unprecedented crisis all around them. The “three monkeys” approach has long, long since needed to be called out, for the good of souls if nothing else.

Since 1969, Catholics have been exposed to folk Masses, childrens’ Masses, balloon masses, rock masses, jazz masses, western theme masses, mardigras masses, clown masses, circus masses, voodoo masses, hindu masses, beer hall masses, beach masses, aquarium masses, hindu masses, sodomite masses, freemason masses, Kiki and Carmen neo cat sect masses. Who knows, with a bit of effort it might be possible to find a Manchester United mass somewhere.

And yet throughout the world, bishops have prevented, hindered and obstructed the offering of the Mass of All Time with an apparent determination that matches that of some of the worst enemies of the Church. Where tyrannical, persecuting emperors, kings and despots opposed to the Church of Christ failed, modernist bishops have in many places succeeded. Can anyone tell me at what point such Prelates fall out of communion with the Church. Just asking.

Catholics who wish for nothing more than their birth right, the Mass of All Time, the Mass that was brought to these islands with the One, True, Faith, are regarded with barely concealed contempt by the full commie, New Springtime monkeys, many of whom are carving out rather a nice career for themselves. Catholics who hold to the Faith of our Fathers have heard all the ridiculous labels, including elitist, nostalgic, slow learning, hard headed, ghetto minded, cussed, schismatic, Lefebvrist, and reactionary members of the awkward squad. Most have no doubt become used to the patronising tone of some of their aging heretic detractors, as well the neo-con careerist Pharisees who take it upon themselves to make declarations in the name of the Church.

Quite what it will take for the full commies to recognise and admit the nuclear devastation that surrounds them is a bit hard to figure out. Talk of “unpacking the real council” smacks more and more of desperation.

Here’s my discussion point for the full commies. I haven’t looked at much of the clips attached to the following link, but be warned, there may be large dollops of toe-curling cringe factor.

    • Leo,

That video seemed to be just one bunch of golden oldies making fools of themselves. I’ll need to look at it again, but it’s really pathetic. By the way, I think there’s some way that bloggers can post the actual video – not just the link – but I’ll need to work that out.

I totally agree with your assessment – and your comparison is spot on, between the indulging attitude of the hierarchy towards the (literally) clowns who turn the Mass into a song and dance session, mostly a dance session, and the intolerance of the bishops towards those of us who wish to worship God in the same way as the great saints, martyrs and Doctors of the Church did, not to mention the butchers, the bakers and the candlestick-makers of yore.

But, we’re on to them now – and they know it!

      • Editor,

The.big question has to be this. Is a priest who allows these shocking liturgical abuses likely to celebrate a valid Mass? Does he truly have the proper intention? Surely on the basis of the spectacle above there has to be serious doubt!

  6. Petrus,

That’s what I was thinking. I don’t think it could possibly be a valid Mass, even if they don’t change the words of consecration. I think that entrance and probably what followed it, is pure blasphemy.

  7. The video is stomach churning, I could not even watch much of it. Such “video nasties” should be banned!

Its a complete mockery, I dont know how any right thinking Catholic could endure that in a Church building.

What are we? The Church of England?

  8. What a shocking video. I doubt that this could possibly be a valid Mass. The music and entrance is straight out of a circus. Blasphemous is all I can say about this liturgical abuse.
